I never minded ABBA, but with the fiery, intense burning of 1000 suns, I hated the Bee Gees. But ABBA was so catchy, that even if you didn't like it, it could burrow into your brain.

Even their drum fills were catchy.

Anni has a real interesting background.  Her father was a Nazi, and she was born under the controversial Norwegian Lebensborn program.  Her father abandoned her after the war, and her mother fled Norway to Sweden to raise her.

ABBA perfected pop music in 1980 with their album "Super Trouper". It's been all downhill since then.

One new song is on Spotify.  It's surprisingly good. A tight well written pop song that sounds, oddly enough, reminiscent of the Beach Boys.

And apparently they've taken good care of themselves, because if you played this for me and told me it was recorded when they were still in their 30s I would believe it without hesitation.

They wore motion sensing suits for their "Abba-tars" right? So the Abba-tars on stage will look like 30-somethings that move around like 70-somethings?

/Low energy. Sad.

ABBA was very useful to me. My 12-year-old self quickly learned the value in separating the art from the artist.

The Bee Gees wrote "If I Can't Have You" for ABBA , who turned it down in favor of their own compositions, which is too bad, because they probably would have had another number one song.  Listen to Yvonne Elliman's version - even the arrangements are ABBA-esque.

Possible. I thought that one of their other albums (Voulez-vous or The Visitors) may have been better but after looking through them they all seem to have a similar number of fast and slow songs; there's no standout with exclusively fast songs or a really cohesive album concept. Some of their early stuff seems to have suffered from overly aggressive recording levels on the vocals to the point they occasionally distort but they seem to have optimized their equipment to better handle the Wall of Sound for their later works.

They used younger body doubles to get them moving like their 1970s selves.
