Yup, I went in for one of my annual exams and they asked if anything new was diagnosed, if I had been hospitalized, etc. "Nope, nope, nope."

Unmentioned was that nothing was bad enough to seek hospitalization.

...also cannot get most things addressed because they would disqualify me from my job.

We're having patients wait 48 hours on gurneys in the ER. We're on diversion as well, but I still get a few people coming in on CIWA that honestly should have been IV rehydration or just sent home to sober up instead because we're missing saddle PEs, DVT, VREs from post COVID pts that are scared to come in. They already have/had Covid, and think they're in the clear, and suddenly they're not doing so hot. Somehow they're just not understanding their risks and not following up with their PCP.

Last thing, since it's flu season, I've been asking people if they want their flu shot (everyone gets asked) People then question me "I heard you're putting Covid in that too!"

Get cleanings every 4 months. Covid made no difference. My dentist office is a testament to the effectiveness of masks. No one in the office has been sick since the end of 2019.

No one in this thread read the actual article (I know, I know. . .)

But really, you tell everyone to hide at home for 2 years and get surprised when colds send folks to the hospital and adults develop RSV?

Something about the cure being worse than the disease, especially when the disease treatment was "no, go home, take Tylenol, and come back if your lips turn blue" instead of officially trying literally anything else.

Explain, in detail, the treatment regimen for your typical covid + patient at a hospital, that when first presented didn't need immediate invasive care .

I have to maintain a medical clearance to work, and there are a lot of conditions that can disqualify us. The trick is not to get anything diagnosed, because then there is "no problem."

It is unhealthy and we have lost people to physical and mental problems. The saddest was a coworker who committed suicide because of depression. The father wanted to collect donations for a mental health organization specifically for the job, but we had to tell him that there was no such organization because no one can seek treatment without losing their clearance...which is why his kid never got help.

FTFA: Except for initial hot spots like New York City, many ERs across the U.S. were often eerily empty in the spring of 2020.

But now, they're too full. Even in parts of the country where COVID-19 isn't overwhelming the health system, patients are showing up to the ER sicker than they were before the pandemic, their diseases more advanced and in need of more complicated care.

tfa is about people showing up now, after delaying diagnosis/care but I was commenting on the practice mentioned above, re: sending Covid patients home with Tylenol and asking if *part* of that might not have been to certain hospitals having too few ICU beds to take them in.

Without specificity regarding time and location, it's hard to say why some hospitals sent some Covid patients were sent home with Tylenol other than a generic "for lack of better options at the time"

Our Dr retired in 2020, partly because telehealth visits weren't working for her. We spent a while finding a new one, that took our insurance, that was taking patients, etc. Our medical records have yet to be forwarded a year later and so we had to start all over with basic tests, most performed at other medical offices. I waited 4 hours to have a mammogram because it was "due". Spent a lot of it watching two cancer patients have a conversation. One would lean in and pull down her mask, speak, put her mask back up, then the other, same thing. God forbid I skip that mammogram though.

Medical care in the US is painfully stupid.

If you have kids you know what the first few weeks at child care or school is like. It's the balancing of all the diseases you kid hasn't been exposed to. The same with the COVID lockdowns. It will find a balance, but only after time. It's also the reason I don't think we should travel internationally, but who knows?

It was because they didn't want them out infecting others if they didn't absolutely have to.  That was made pretty clear at the time, if you could breathe then stay home for two weeks and test again.
