In Korea. In the US, there are about a dozen law firms that exclusively make their (many) millions per year suing pension fund managers and trustees for every imaginable thing. A story like this in the US would be like ringing a dinner bell for ERISA litigators.

But I'm told a pension is always better than a 401(k).

Being able to choose my own distributions is clearly inferior to trusting a bunch of strangers not to bet my retirement on something like farking Dogecoin.

Yes, it clearly is, you've made that clear, by not understanding how pension funds operate.

You've did your own research.

My main beef is with companies that gutted their pensions, pay less than $40k, and now offer a 401k with absolutely no matching.

At that point you're better off with an IRA or Roth IRA.

/$40k because 15% of $40k is $6,000 which is the annual contribution limit for IRAs

I don't get it.
We do need to fix the retirement system, but for now everyone needs to decide how they are going to fund their retirement.
I dunno, maybe people shouldn't elect the weak or wealthy to Congress.
