I can't wait until the first dumb tourist "pulls a Yellowstone" and approaches one...and gets trampled.

Hopefully it goes better for them in Carpathian country than in Germany.

I live in bear and mountain lion country. You learn some basic rules around wildlife and incidents and conflicts are few. Unless you have a complete dope in your community who doesn't understand wild animals should be left the fark alone. Fortunately, where I live, that's not generally an issue.

The closest I ever came to a mountain lion as a kid was some bloody deer shinbones left on a forest access road my family went for walkies on. There were others just off the road, but I didn't see a carcass. The blood was still red, so I presume it was fairly recent.

Many more encounters with bears, but none of them dangerous. Bears are smart, but they're not going to work too hard for food if they can avoid it, which I understand and respect. Some basic precautions with your garbage and compost goes a long way to avoiding issues.

I'd probably be less casual with a bison, though. First, it's a walking tank. And second, herbivores are prey animals, and prey animals tend not to pass on an unwillingness to throw down when they think they're threatened. Third, bison specifically give no farks, so you'd better be doing it enough for the both of you.

/ deer are assholes, though

Dr. Demento made the 'Buffalo-tennial' back in 1976.
