"Schaeuble, 79, a conservative veteran and former finance and interior minister, is the longest-serving member of parliament. He has been a lawmaker since 1972."

So Germany also has incredibly old politicians that don't know when to retire.

Sure they can. Because German law doesn't tolerate white supremacist, Nazi BS like the USA does. When it rears its head there, they crack down hard and don't give it opportunity to foment. They can absolutely point fingers at us.

Yes, other countries that aren't the USA have normal govts that are more or less functional...

Meanwhile in Dumbfarkistan,  Y'all Qaeda is regrouping for another shot at dictatorship, and dreaming of murdering all the Democrats.  Good times

Yeah, I mean we only have that pesky freedom of speech thing.

And yeah, I get the pretty much nil value hate speech has for society.

Also, the Germans have problems with far right parties (who do garner plenty of supporters and some seats in their parliament) and groups which have become very violent, with proven links to their military and security services regardless of Germany criminalizing the symbols and the overt speech.  So the idea they've manuevered out of their past with little or no issues is absolutely not the case.

Also fun fact- because the Nazi flag is banned in Germany, their far-right extremists have adopted waving the American Confederate Flag at their rallies to get the white supremacist view across.  This is a true and actual thing.

Not just "normal" governments.  The Social Democrats in Germany (SPD) are full-on Socialists and they won the election, beating Merkel's party.

The largest and most powerful government in the EU is now fully Socialist.  Now they just have to get a coalition going.

Oh yeah? When I was over there they made such a big deal about my t-shirt no matter how much I explained it was actually a Hindu symbol and I am just that spiritual. I even got accosted after shouting about how much 'I hate juice.'

So much for freedom, eh?

I like their purple chairs.  If I was 15-20 years younger I would try to get citizenship and move there.  My great grandpa moved here from Germany, so I do have some reason for them to take me in.

Er, no. Just no.
The SPD today has hardly any socialist vein. They have become pretty conservative in the last 30 years. There is in fact another party in the parliament simply named 'Die Linke' (the left) that really has some socialism in their agenda, but they won't be part of the new government.

That symbol is forbidden in Germany, and whilst they are aware that it is Hindu when reverse. You were just being an ass.

Yep, they have freedom of speech, as defined. Including telling you to stop being an ass.

Fully socialist?  I think you mean Centre left.  The far left party in Germany got killed at the polls and only made it in on a technicality.

After doing some reading they're still lefties but "pragmatic".

The SPD: Germany′s oldest political party | Germany | News and in-depth reporting from Berlin and beyond | DW | 25.09.2021

CDU and Christian Social Union conservatives accused Scholz of planning to form a far-left government. But Scholz kept his distance from the Left Party. That socialist grouping is rooted in the Communist Party that ruled over East Germany but also includes high-profile SPD renegades, who had left the SPD in 2004 in protest over the increasingly neoliberal Schröder policies. The SPD's left-wing is likely to advocate for a rapprochement.

Yeah, the whole world is dealing with extremism, including Germany. Great podcast series on the German alt-right military groups and the playback the American alt-right is following

Climate change will continue this trend as the world heats up and whole countries become uninhabitable.
