Yes, because climate change is the issue they can win the election on....said no one ever.

The way to win is to keep tying Youngkin to Trump, say if Youngkin is elected Trump will be co-governor, etc.
That's they way to scare Democrats and Independents to get to the polls, not by saying if you don't vote for Terry the ocean will rise by one inch.

Attacking Youngkin on his statement on gay marriage is betting people will care about things that affect others but not themselves.

In other words, we're boned.

Jesus...it's like they have no clue how to campaign or fight. The evil GOP has no plans ...just hate and ignorance...but they vote lockstep on that. And the Democrats just keep sitting their saying "gosh...please vote for me"

It's not intended to sway even 1 person who questions climate change.  It's supposed to get apathetic or fatigued Democratic voters to actually turn out and vote.

That said, while I DO think that Virginia voters are a bit tired of the Trump vote - they've done hardcore in every election since 2016, I also think that there's enough to tie Youngkin to Trump to say, "guys, after January 6th, and after Youngkin's embrace and Trump's endorsement of him, we're not done yet," that is way better suited to turning out the Democratic votes, as Walker mentioned upthread..

It isn't designed to win a single gop vote, because republicans do not vote for Democrats.

We shouldn't be running television issue ads in the last week we should be financing progressive outlets to push issues content all farking year long.

Republicans are out there propping up every two bit website and buying podunk radio stations then filling those places with nutter than squirrel shiat content. Really? Because I was assured many, many, many times in these very threads that one of Clinton's major problems was that she spent too much time attacking Republicans and not enough time talking about what she would do if elected.

These claims were of course lies, but it's funny to see people flip-flop like that, especially given the...emphasis they placed on the opposite position not too long ago.

The organization of the Youngkin campaign has been impressive:

First ads; self made business man that went to work when dad lost his job, worked hard to earn scholarship, worked as night stocker.
Next batch; identified taxes and promised to eliminate those that directly effect middle class (grocery tax) and veterans (military retirement pay).
Next batch; one on one with "life long Democrats"
Next batch; identify specific screw ups from last time McAuliffe was in office (failed deal with Chinese company).
Next (and hopefully final) batch; pounce on out of context statement from debate about parent input in schools.

McAuliffe campaign:
First batch; Youngkin promises to _____ *clip of Youngkin promising _____* McAuliffe "I support this message".
Next batch; I did great as governor....let me back.
Next batch; secret camera that says nothing but "I can't run on that platform because that's not what the electorate wants, if I had full majorities maybe, but I don't have that now"
Next batch; half hearted "I know Terry" endorsement from previous president.
Now; climate change.

If Youngkin wins, it will be because Democrats snatched failure from the jaws of victory.

//hate McAuliffe but know Youngkin would be worse

It can't be understated that polls reflect the opinions of PEOPLE WHO ANSWER POLLING QUESTIONS.

As in, weirdos.

Most people hang up immediately or don't even answer an unfamiliar number (if it's a phone poll).  The people who are happy to spend 5 minutes answering a pollster's questions are weirdos.

You could be right. In which case the public just can't stand Democrat politicians themselves, probably because they've been running the party for around 50 years a piece at this point. In which case a new party with new faces would still seem to be something that should be easier to get off the ground than it is.

There are 20 Blue Collar Democrats in a caucus (I took out the ones with duel membership in the CPC)

That's 114 votes. In a party of 220 if they get on the same page, and the BCDs have showed solidarity over reconciliation thwarting the NDC.

Listen, I respect the Obamas, but that whole "When they go low, we go high," has done major lasting damage to Democrats. I know because I'm one of them. I'm having to psyche myself up to go speak at a school board meeting in a few weeks because I know those loud anti-mask crazies are going to be there yelling and screaming. I don't want to deal with these people. I don't want to get into a screaming match with some unhinged crisis actor who doesn't even live in the district. But when I go there, do I go in with a level-headed speech full of facts and logic? Or do I scream just as loud so I can actually be heard?

Republicans are nut job insurrectionists with guns and tiki torches and lies, and we're sitting in the corner with our microbrew saying, "Hey, did you see that 20-minute segment on Maddow tonight?" I wish Dems had more of a fight in them, but we've listened for too many years to "When they go low, we go high."

Voter: That's less great but I might be able to find something else

Democrats need to be pimping the hell out of green jobs.

Kamala Harris said in the debates that solar installer was the number one fastest growing job in CA.

Here's the US in general:

Make them decent paying union jobs and drive non-renewables out by way of competition.

Just make them decent paying union jobs huh? Just like that? Around here solar installers make $4 over minimum wage. Green energy is the future we're on the way right now but you won't win any votes reminding people they will be out of a job.

You know we can make the minimum wage higher by law, do alot of other things by law that other industrialized countries have done since at least the late 1940s (UK only waited two years after WW2 to implement single-payer universal healthcare with the NHS). We need to actually push for it with our politicians, vote to remove the politicians who don't want to improve things for their constituents and replace them with better politicians. This isn't a zero sum game of "No more coal jobs = Unemployment forever for former coal workers", we can help them transition into better, safer jobs.

We now reach the other side of this coin.

This is the point where it's not enough for Democrats to not be republicans, they have to stand for something. And why won't they talk about issues

They don't talk about issues, because if they do people won't vote for them because no one likes what they stand for. Good God, the fact that no one can figure out a way to create and manage a decent 3rd party these days is absolutely mystifying.

Actually the majority of Americans are in favor of democratic policies. For Medicaid for all to prescription drug pricing to expanding unemployment benefits. It's just that the Democrats have no farking clue how to get out their message. And they have no farking clue how to counter the Republican hate and stupidity. For god sakes Obama spent eight years trying to be nice and not use the presidency as a bully pulpit and look what it got us.

Thankfully, I am team "when they go low, you kick their teeth in." Which would make me a great fit for lefty politics, because Progressives do understand the value of an alley fight.

The problem for Progressives is they mostly alley fight about issues nobody but their precious little stupid selves cares about, like policing the language and identity politics.  Fifteen genders on a form. Bathrooms for all, not health care for all.

The Dems need populists who are also capable of rallying into stealing votes from the rural right - Biden's trying, but the old guy just doesn't have the horsepower any more, the Camaro's just not making it.

And his VP is ridiculous. She's fumbled every public speaking opportunity they've given her.

Most Dems act and sound like elitist d-bags, because they are. This is a problem. Trumpworld is packed to the gills with people who know how to fight unfair, and politics is by definition an unfair fight. An alley fight.

Stop bringing a Rogers' Rules of Order and a Powerpoint presentation to an alley fight, Dems.

Oh wait, you can't, because you're upper-middle-class children of privilege.  Well guess what. America isn't.

Reeeeeally getting tired of the ads, only a week to go though.  The best ad the Dems ran was the recording of Youngkin admitting he was lying about his position on abortion to get some Democrats to jump over and vote for him, and then he would "go on the offensive" against abortion rights after he got elected.  The one showing him saying the exact same words as Trump on a number of hot button issues is also a good one.
