When someone says something is "on the table", doesn't that usually mean it's negotiable if they want to flip on the higher-ups?

Finding Out should be on the table, when it's time to decide what to do with those who F*ked Around.

Yeah, I think calling it a carrot is apt

It'll be as "on the table" as Dubya's impeachment.

Or they're offering expulsion in exchange for not charging them with treason.

It provided a fairly stable environment for a few billion years, which eventually got us to where we are now.

Not that I disagree, but I hope they're prepared to hear a massive amount of wailing from the GOP about this being "nothing more than a blatant attempt at a partisan power grab." Particularly if any of the people they're talking about expelling happen to be from the Senate (looking at you Josh Hawley). The Fox News chyrons would practically write themselves.

I have little doubt that there's at least 3 or 4 members of Congress who deserve to be expelled due to their involvement in the events of 1/6, but optically speaking this still strikes me as a very risky proposition.

They should vote to expel them.  Even if it won't go through.

Unfortunately the gop media lies will just campaign on this and those traitors will be re-elected anyway.

Strangely, they seem anxious to forget that as quickly as possible.

Hell, Pence made a point of doubling down on his loyalty to the man who honestly tried to get him murdered.  Say what you want about conservagelicals, they make really awesome toadies.

Counterpoint -- there is no risk from Fox News or their viewers that Democrats would face from expelling insurrectionist Republicans, that they would not face from literally any other action they would, could, or actually do take; from declaring that ice cream is delicious, to trying to pass a law making it illegal to detonate nuclear weapons within 500 feet of a church.

Or, for that matter, NOT trying to expel insurrectionist Republicans.

There are better things for them to do with their time than trying not to anger the people who are angered by their very existence.

Unfortunately, orbital mechanics mean that anything fired towards the sun will end up in orbit not far from the orbit of Earth, so that in order to reach the sun, rockets wou need to fire against the direction of the orbit in what would be an incredibly expensive burn. Probably easier to fire them into the gas giant Jupiter.... 🤔

I'd settle for life in a prison colony built inside an asteroid ½way to Jupiter. In particular, Asteroid №23238 given who else said this yesterday (Fark thread ℕ11865115).

Their biggest worry about expulsion is Fox News won't be able to hire them all, so some of them well have to slum it on OANN for below-seven-figure contracts.

The sun? That's a horrible idea! Think of how much fuel we would need to burn for that kind of ∆v! It's better to just launch them in the general direction of Sagittarius A*.

They tried to overthrow the government.  But somehow removing them from office is political.

I agree. If there's anything that should get a member of Congress expelled it's this, but the bar for expulsion is so high, given how few have ever been kicked out before, that likely nothing's going to happen. If they are in a district full of troglodytes who think they behaved as patriots, they will still be reëlected.

Translation: we shouldn't expel traitors who wished to overthrow the government because we might hurt a news service's feel feels?

The question is, would that supermajority be necessary for 14th  Amendment section 3?  If it's considered an act of rebellion, iT would bar them from office unless congress allows them to remain.  It would not necessarily be an expulsion, but rather a disqualification.

Yeah, I think this is the issue.
No matter what the Jan 6 committee finds, Congress is still and old boys' and girls' club. Even ignoring the current D/R antagonism, they would never vote to expel another member of the club.

I think Adam Clayton Powell was expelled, but that's because he was Bla....
The Idiot Posse (Greene, Boebert, Goser, Gohmert, Gaetz and the rest) haven't even been reprimanded for their hijinks. And it remains to be seen whether Congress would expel someone convicted of having sex with underage girls.
