It sure seems like the democrats/media are pushing a narrative aimed as drumming up support for heavy government intervention across the social media landscape to make sure only liberal-approved content can be shared.

'That's some real nice free speech you go there, it'd be a shame if something happened to it...'

You do realize that by calling any attempt to cut back on harmful information "liberal-approved content", you're saying that conservative content is lies about vaccines and COVID treatment, as well as falsehoods about the election intended to incite insurrection?

What's "conservative" about that?

Well, it's nice that you've figured out which political party is against human trafficking.

Now, you need to ask yourself why you support the opposition party so vehemently.

um, the world has an organized crime/human trafficking problem.   FB is one of the few big companies that we recently heard about making bank off of it.   When "the Twitter  papers" break out, we will read about it there.

Or are we to believe that FB is the only company doing this and everyone else is clean as a whistle?

You can't use the First Amendment as a blanket to break the law. Facebook is breaking the law by allowing human traffickers to post on their site and not doing anything about it - that's against the law.

Your argument is like excusing illegal gun trafficking because, hey, the Second Amendment says we have a right to bear arms. Or hey, the Constitution gives me a right to vote so I'm going to vote as many times as I want! Amendments have limits.

If you think about it, a perfect money laundering scheme would be to set up a bunch of shell companies, donate to a 501k non-profit SuperPAC through them, and overpay for ad space on a platform you already own part of.

Purchasing a piece of that platform when the CEO was desperate (like say 2008, when companies were killing their ad budgets) would have been easy.  And since you're paying for the ad space, you can run the ads you want with the messages you want.

And since you own both a piece of the platform and control a significant portion of the revenue stream (enough to bankrupt the platform if you pull support), you have tremendous sway with ownership.

I find Facebook extremely useful in my personal and professional life but I wish I could use it without feeling guilty of supporting the evil they turn a blind eye to in the name of profit.

I had to leave LinkedIn after someone completely misinterpreted something I posted.  I had praised a young lady as a piano prodigy, who happened to be black, and some apparently far-left nutbag read hidden meaning into my post, saying something like "What, black children are not capable of being prodigies?": a conclusion that no reasonable person would have reached.  He declared me a racist and overnight, it spiraled out of control and I was being bombarded with hundreds of hate messages and threats to my employment.  Damage control only made it worse.  I deleted my account in the hope that nobody's threat was serious enough to hunt down my archived profile to show my employer.  At the time, I was moderator of a group that was being infiltrated by corporately sponsored shills/trolls who were opposed to the mission of the group and I would not have put it past them to have orchestrated this.  I dropped the ban hammer on a few of them when they engaged in personal attacks against group members but otherwise did not try to limit anybody's speech.  We all knew who was who, like we do here.

You're right, but screwing with people that have real money is the only way that things get changed. Civil forfeiture should come after conviction for a felony, not for driving through redneckistan on the way to Disneyworld.

If they can't or wont fix it, have the government shut them down.  Just pull the plug on the servers.  Today.  Have the government just blackout facebook today.

Problem solved.
