lucky, we're still only offering boosters to the olds and immune compromised folks.

I got my quad dose flu shot though.

My wife suggested I find out what other shots I'm missing since I haven't been quite as attentive to those as I should have been; I think the only major one that's on my radar is the shingles one once I turn 50 (? citation needed, don't know if it's 50 or 55).

I've never had shingles and everyone who has seems pretty adamant that I don't want to.

CDC recommends that healthy adults 50 years and older get two doses of the shingles vaccine called Shingrix (recombinant zoster vaccine), separated by 2 to 6 months

Yes. Do it. But at least a month before / after any other vaccines. I will say out of every vaccine shot I've had in the last 4 years (pneumonia, whooping cough, 4x flu, 3x Covid, shingles), Shingrix are the ones that put me on my ass.

Shingles is freaking terrible, don't get it if you can avoid it. I keep bugging my doc to get the shot since my last flare up, but still too young.

No need with the regenerative ability, also might be a little leery of injections.

Um, if I had active outbreaks I would get another doctor who could get me the shot, the age is just a guideline, if you're already suffering from Shingles then find someone who can get you a jab.

The running narrative is that it doesn't matter, you gotta be 50 or pay out the proverbial wazoo for the shot. It's the insurance toadies making the call.

Luckily no more shingles flare ups for 7 years, but learned my lesson about stress levels the hard way.

Nurse & very-soon-to-be FNP here.  Thank you for being a conscientious human being/fellow Farker.  :)   You can go to your primary care provider and ask them to order titers (done via blood labs) to check antibody levels for the vaccine-preventable diseases.  Sometimes our immunity wanes over time, even for the "lifelong" vaccinations, so it's good to check and get vaccinations you missed or any boosters if needed.  (I personally found out that I needed an MMR booster- the measles antibody level was a bit below the acceptable threshold.)

Note that titers don't need to be done on a regular basis, nor does this advice follow official vaccination guidelines.  Also, don't ask for COVID-19 titers (the science is involved, but those are for public-health monitoring for people who have had actual COVID-19 infections... yes, the vaccines work... no they haven't developed mass-use titers for each vaccine yet).  IMHO, titers drawn once, around middle-age or older, is a good idea - especially for anyone who is going to be around very young children, immunocompromised people, elderly, etc.  Better to check and be safe than sorry!

The average retail cost is ~$200, based on what I saw with my brother I would pay $200 to avoid even 1 hour of that torture.
