The key is to move the spider to another, less-annoying-to-you indoor location...

I'm all for catching and releasing spiders, but by god, they're getting released outdoors.
They're not getting turned loose again in my own house.
It's up to the spider to find his way back in, or go next door.
They're getting a break as it is, don't push it.

My mother was one of those who freaked out over spiders as is a friend of mine.  I have several orb weavers drop by every fall, setting up webs outside of doors and windows around the house.  They're fascinating to watch, plus they eat bugs.  I also have a little black spider (w/ spots) that has webs all over the hallway and spots of my living room.  It's fun to watch him traverse such a large area.  Again, killing bugs.

The only spiders I squish are the black widows.

That's why you relocate them to a neighbor's house/apartment. Sneak your unwanted guest in a window, or drop it off during a neighborly visit

Since I started growing plants on my porch, I've found a new appreciation for spiders. They've built a bit of Valhalla for themselves, catching the whiteflies and gnats... and more power to them... feast on, spidersbros.

I only remove old webbing and I keep the porch light on all night. You should see the size of those bad boys near the socket. Beautiful colors and mottling.
