Fortunately the hawk, financed by large corporations run by otters, strongly embraced the use of DDT and various other chemicals to stiggit to "vegtard squrruls,"  thus embarrassingly securing an inevitable victory for squirrels everywhere in mere decades, tops.

I'm skeptical they'll actually overturn Roe v. Wade yet. I think they're going to glom onto the language in Roe about "possibility of meaningful life outside the womb," and say that technology has improved such that that date can be moved back to six weeks or so.

The two best comments I saw:

The "hawk of Gawd" and the "fluffy tails of perdition."

Next week we can take up yarrow stalk casting and harumancy as a means of determining how we should vote. Nothing like reading entrails before each session of the House to start things off right!

Yeah, the rep is a religious fanatic.  But I really don't get these articles pointing out how random people on Twitter "roast" this guy for his ignorance.

Do people not realize that social media is not reality?  Roasting some idiot Southern state rep on Twitter isn't going to stop him, or stop the Supreme Court from farking over millions of women.  It isn't going to do ONE GODDAMMED THING.  It's just fodder for clickbait articles.

They don't realize the best legal argument for being anti-vaxxer comes out of Roe v Wade do they?

I mean the idea of overturning Roe v Wade is  insane and inhumane to begin with, but even if they win, they lose.

It will be overturned becauss we've allowed religious nuts on the Supreme Court.

Sadly, no; people do think "social media" and snark is reality. Just look at the headline down a bit saying Psaki "vaporized" some idiot.

No, I do not, but they do understand they have to say something to get the rest of us to change our minds, and none of their cargo cult magic words have worked on us to date. Most people would understand that means you need to try new words or ideas, instead these idiots will just scream louder and then decide to shoot people.

When did the right turn into a bunch of flaming commies?

Forcing someone to give something of theirs to another person with no compensation isn't done in the US, even if that recipient would die without it.

When Christians mean "right and freedom", they mean the rights and freedom to impose a Christian theocracy upon the rest of us. They don't care about inconsistent statements.

I witnessed a collision between a Cadillac and a Dodge this morning.  Does that portend a shooting war between the classes in this once-proud nation?

Yeah, I was coming here to say something similar. Isn't reading prophesy from the bodies and entrails of animals an occult thing? Making them not only hypocrites, which we know they care nothing about, but also heretics to their own "faith"?

Even if you took advances in medical technology into consideration, you couldn't move the guidelines for fetal viability back to six weeks. The earliest delivery I've heard of that still resulted in a baby healthy enough to survive a year  was at 21 weeks and 2 days gestation. That baby spent six grueling months in the NICU getting strong enough to survive in the outside world. No fetus is viable at 20 weeks gestation, let alone six.

If the Court wants to make abortion legal, they have to overrule Roe v. Wade.

A couple of days ago, I saw a hawk slowly glide in to the cat lady's tree.  There was a thump and a squirrel started biatching up a stream.   The hawk flew out empty-taloned and glided off.  Squirrel ranted.

So my takeaway is that a hawk tried to get a squirrel in a tree and it didn't work out for the hawk.  Also, Roe V Wade will be upheld and considered settled law for everyone.  Even the 60 year old grifters of both evangelical and political classes.

They'll overturn it and "leave it up to the states" so we can see more than half the nation turn into the Republic of Gilead.

I was walking through the neighborhood this weekend, and saw a small Cooper's hawk fall upon a squirrel. The hawk misjudged, probably trying to avoid hitting the adjacent tree, and missed. The squirrel leapt up onto the aforementioned tree and launched itself onto the raptor with a mighty squeak.

There was a puff of feathers and fur, and the hawk managed to extricate itself and flee.

I take this to mean that Gillian Anderson will read me a sultry bedtime story every evening, before slinking under the covers beside me.  Thanks, Jesus!

/I think the squirrel did not realize it was a hawk that attacked it, and assumed it was one of its greedy kin

It's been said already in this thread, but the right-wing nutjobs on the SC will overturn it anyway and this loon as his loon followers will dance their little dance of victory and saw, "WE TOLD YOU SO."

Knowing that a predator getting a nibble has absolutely nothing to do with massive legal precedent upheaval because of fascist assholes  doesn't change the fact that it's still likely to happen.

Here we have an article saying "Their plans are to overturn Roe" and here in chat you can see the people claiming "They don't actually want to overturn Roe"

I dunno, maybe I'm old fashioned, but when people show you who they are and tell you who they are, and demonstrate who they are, I tend to believe them.

Thanks for the background info. I still think they'll try to narrow Roe without actually overturning it.

The only possible "narrowing" that leaves in place Roe's principle about the government having no constitutional interest in pregnancy until fetal viability is stating that viability has moved back a few weeks, from 24 to 21. That would still leave Mississippi's law, every "fetal heartbeat" law, and basically every other abortion ban passed in the last several years unconstitutional. Any other outcome necessarily has to discard the principle that fetal viability determines the government can intervene and override privacy concerns present in earlier pregnancies.
