I probably watched a handful of episodes and don't know who this is, how many episodes was he in? It's weird between this and Seinfeld I spent my Thursdays doing anything but watching TV.

He put in a LOT of time in the background at the coffee shop.  I wouldn't be surprised to find he was in every Central Perk scene, but I honestly can't remember noticing him when he didn't have lines about or reactions to Rachel.

I doubt it. I saw him on a podcast, and he said he refuses to do any kissing or sex scenes. He says he loves his wife to much to do it. I guess he thinks so scenes are like cheating on his wife.

R.I.P.  - Guy With Cancer

Wait. He was heterosexual?

I read somewhere that he was only supposed to be in one or two episodes, but he knew how to work the espresso machine, so they kept him around.

He was on the Friends Reunion via zoom & explained his condition. I'm glad he was able to participate in some way. fark cancer.

I didn't see much of Friends, but what I did see included Gunther. As an actor, he was delightful and very talented. Sad to hear of his passing.

Fark cancer.

I think he was in around half the episodes. I remember seeing the number when the reunion happened, but forgot it other than remembering, wow he was in more than I thought.

RIP Gunther, you were the only friend that didn't sleep with Janice.

This information comes from the WB Studios tour so trust it as far as you can throw it, but when they started shooting the Central Perk scenes the set had a functional espresso machine and they asked the extras if any of them knew how to work the damn thing. He apparently had, at best, a vague idea of how to work it, but volunteered anyway as no one else did.

So, in the same category as "Steve Martin was a Jungle Cruise Skipper" type stuff.

Martin was not. He did briefly work in retail on Mainstreet and later the Magic shop in Fantasyland, so one of those quasi truth things. Yes Disney, no not JC.

Wiki says Friends was 236 episodes, article says he was in 150. So yeah, that's a damned good run as a smaller role.

Friends and Seinfeld are in the same universe, Kramer sublet his apartment from Paul on Mad about You,  Phoebe sister was the waitress Ursula on MAY

He was supposed to be an invisible extra in the background but somehow transcended to the main stage with one or two quick lines of dialog. He was very good in the role.

R.I.P, extra-special extra. You were too young to go this way.
