Wow. I thought quarterbacks were not eligible receivers. Maybe that got changed along the way?

I think there are plays were, if you tell the refs what you're about to do, a non-receiver can become eligible, but I can't claim much subject knowledge.

A quarterback is eligible as long as he is at least one yard behind the line of scrimmage at the snap. So if he's under center he's not eligible, otherwise he is.

Here's a little compilation of QB reception TDs. The first one was a tip ball and the others trick plays.

I remember watching Steve Young have a pass batted straight up, catching it and running for a touchdown. Might be only NFL quarterback to catch his own pass for a T.D. Wild!

Not a TD, but Brett Favre's first career completion was to Brett Favre.

Best I could find, unless there's another one out there. Didn't score, but got close.

Also, a team can only make one forward pass per play. So if the quarterback throws, say, a forward pass to a wide receiver behind the line of scrimmage, then the wide receiver tries to make another forward pass to the quarterback, that would be an illegal forward pass.

Aside: The fact the Giants' best receiver might be their quarterback explains a lot about the Giants.

Marcus Mariota has done it recently as well. NFL blocked it so you have to click.

And he got crushed after catching it. They are going to break him at this rate. At least he has this highlight for the wall.

I don't believe Steve Young had a TD pass to himself, the clip I can find had him tackled at the two yard line.

Brad Johnson did it once in the regular season and Marcus Mariotta did it for his first playoff touchdown.

Nothing gets an offense fired up more than the QB making an athletic play outside of their normal area of expertise.

Back in the late '90s I was stuck in north Texas, nothing but Cowboys, Cowboys, Cowboys so I was forced to avoid NFL broadcasts.  However, I did watch one game where an injury decimated Cincinnati Bengals brought back Boomer Esiason midway in the season.

On a blown play the running back did not know what to do (play was supposed to go right and the line collapsed).  So Esiason literally gave the "follow me" hand wave and put a shoulder into a defender for a pretty good block to break the running back for gain that should have been a loss.

After that the Bengals offensive line, which was getting pushed around during the first quarter, began to "exert their will" on the Cowboy's defense.

My bad! ALMOST a touchdown! 28 years ago. Cobwebs, whiskey, bud and Bud!
Getting old ain't for sissies, but it sure beats the alternative!

QB is eligibe if the snap is taken at least one yard behind the center.  So basically shot gun or pistol formation but not "under center".  If the QB lines up say in the slot in a wild cat formation they are eligible because they did not take the snap.
