Since Pokemon cards didn't debut until 1998, traveling back to 1990 would be a good time to get on the ground floor, yeah.

The wire fraud is that he lied about the size of his business, the $285k and 10 employees part. It's unclear if he said the line he was in, but that's a failing company or working down at the bottom, and a loan wasn't going to help. Should have just told him to stock shelves at the supermarket along side his underpaid former employees.

The Pokémon card wasn't part of the wire fraud. It's just a giggle at the levels of incompetence we're seeing.

Sheesh, I collect comic art and I thought those prices have been getting ridiculous.  For 57k I could get some awesome commissions.

Well in all fairness, we are talking about the state whose motto is essentially wisdom and justice in moderation. Geography isn't one of their strengths.

At least it's circling through the economy.  Elon Musk's brother got $7 million (he owns a chain of restaurants). He took the money and fired the staff.

I attempted that at my local comics store, that sold MtG cards, and had weekly tournaments.

They said they were childish, and would not catch on. :(

Not sure what this guy's plan was.
He got an Economic Injury Disaster Loan which according to TFA needs to be paid back, with interest, and is non-forgivable.
Plus, he would've needed to apply collateral against the loan because he received > $25k.  What was the collateral and what's the state of it now?
Was he hoping this Pokemon card was going to skyrocket and he could pay back the loan with a little extra for himself or did he somehow think the holders of the loan would just forget about it?

Mine it.  It was close to a decade ago I first heard of this stupid thing called Bitcoin on 4chan.  Sure, internet money of the future.  It'll be about as successful as internet time and the Cuecat.

I have a lot of the original Pokémon cards, but not in gem mint 10 condition and not a foil Charizard. But I was looking at prices and all of the super expensive ones are from some obscure expansion or 1-offs printed in Japanese.  So no retirement for me today.

So, if I get my brother to make a one off Pokemon card and I sell ten ofe e them for 50k, I can retire to the Salton Sea and live on expired MREs?

Pokémon cards in Happy Meals spark armed confrontation at McDonald's, Georgia cops say

[Fark user image 850x478]

Not long before this - pokemon cards had been heating up again and caught the eyes of scalpers, leaving shelves bare. It's been rather frustrating to get cards an occasional booster pack or 2 for myself and daughter at about Vivid Voltage and on. Even Walmart and Amazon shipped and sold [not 3rd party] scalp the shiat out of their own website listings in most cases unless it's a series with no demand.

Pokemon 25 in the happy meals was wild in ~Feb. People were buying entire cases of the cards from McD [if they were allowed]. McD never had a nationwide policy so it was a toss up at what would be encountered store to store. Some didn't care, you had the money you could buy the entire cases - F everyone else. Others imposed limits. You can't just buy the cards, you need to buy the happy meal. Doesn't matter if you want to pay the happy meal price for just the cards OR You can only buy X happy meals per customer. etc. There were people buying as many as they could and then throwing the untouched happy meal food in the trash. Scalpers flipping the sealed packs or selling the holos - both were profitable options.

/I had friends a lot of places in the US that were disappointed [campers or no supply at their McD]
//My local McDs had enough to run almost the full duration of the promo - but they were pressured constantly to sell a case.
///Limit 3 happy meals per customer / day at my local store.

Doesn't say where on earth he bought the card.

Most fraud goes undetected, if the crooks are competent and don't get greedy/stupid, especially when there's political pressure to shovel the money out the door - and not much interest in watching where it's being shoveled to.
