Thank god. I was hoping this state would have something fun to do one day.

Seems to me, a roller coaster during an earthquake is a huge draw for the park.

There's never been a coaster disaster that involved an earthquake. Not with our building codes.

The real danger would be for everyone standing in line, as they trample each other trying to get out.

Is subby under the impression that California can't build tall things?

I can hear the gnashing of incel teeth as they want to prove their manhood by riding it but refuse to ride a 'woke' coaster because it's named and themed after Wonder Woman.

Between that and the Captain Marvel coaster, I'm going back to dental school.

That's quite the conundrum.

Maybe they should build their own taller one. Something like "Chad Speedman's Velocicoster of Ultimate Manhood".

Top speed of...58 mph.

Your drive to the park will be more exciting.

I think a lot of people are misreading this article. This rollercoaster isn't even going to be the biggest rollercoaster at the amusement park, 8 other rollercoasters at the park are taller than the 131ft the article says this ride will be.

The key word that's easy to miss here is "single track", in other words its a rollercoaster on a mono-rail rather than one that rides between two rails.

Where did you get that?

If my childhood friends and I could build inadvisable tall fortresses in Crissbows and Catapults certainly Californians can do us one better.

I feel like the tourists would ape the locals.  That's what I experienced.  They won't run if the experienced people aren't trying to.

That, and once I was in a sex toy shop and I was too mesmerized by the effect on the merchandise to actually pay attention to my own safety.  That was a big one, too.  before iphones, so no video.

One thing I never could stomach about Santa [Cruz]...

I adore that place so much. I'm almost afraid to see what it's become I'm the past twenty years

Although nothing could compare to the Loma Prieta remodeling.

More homeless and tweakers, but that's the west coast in general I think. Still love that town, even if the locals are the definition of townies.

And if you can't get to Santa Cruz, you can race on the Giant Dipper on the arcade game California Speed.

foo monkey:

I can fully remember sitting in the living room of this dude's house in 1986 and him saying "check this out" and he put on 'Big Lizard' (album).  We were a group of fairly hardcore punks...Bad Religion, DK, etc...and DM was some of the best shiat I'd heard. Genaro (I think he wrote most of it)  and Jimmy Pop Ali (Bloodhound Gang) are
two of the best song writers in the history of music.

I never really thought of Milkmen are punk though, not really sure why.  There are a few good funny punk bands (see NOFX) but Milkmen seemed sort of a genre of their own.

DedMilkman is one of my go to gaming names.

That day in that living rooms is one of the clearest memories I have, for whatever reason.
Have the same type of clarity on the first time I heard Bad Religion - Bad Religion
Same for Social Distortion Mommys Little Monster (album)
Same for White Man In Hammersmith Palais.

Drugs were involved.

A Wonder Woman coaster?  I bet they'll strap you in real tight there!

131 feet is hardly a large coaster and it isn't very speedy, but I'd still love to try a single track coaster.

Wait, California has earthquakes? Do the structural engineers know about this, but it could be big news if true!

If and when we have the "Big One", the least of our worries will be whether there are a couple dozen idiots on a roller coaster at the time.
They bought their tickets.
You know the drill.

The (thing people build) is heading to (place), where there are never any natural disasters.

Fill in the blanks. People have figured out ways to live in various places on earth, despite the location not being perfect. News at 11.

So it's a foot taller than the current 'tallest single track roller coaster" which is 130 foot tall, 58 mph as well as an 87 degree angle?  Six Flags really outdid itself there.

Woke FemiNazis did this, per Conservatives.

It is pretty freakin awesome. The clacking and groaning of the wood supports really speeds your heart up. That being said, these new coasters are really engineered for maximum adrenaline and sheer joy. If you're a coaster junkie like me a trip to the Valencia Six Flags needs to be on your bucket list.

You should go back. It's still quirky and fun in Santa Cruz. The old timey boardwalk is still fun, although a little more sparse after the pandemic (it's coming back though).

Protip: definitely be vaxxed if you are coming to CA. We do not suffer plague rats very well, except in Southern CA where we have our fair share of idiots.

I've ridden it a few dozen times. The Beach Boardwalk is a must-go whenever I'm in California. Love how it starts out in a completely dark tunnel!

Just rename it Wonder Woman Flies into Earthquake. Real earthquakes would be a bonus.

From the description, it looks like a neck breaker. Anything that says it can be "aggressive" with turns is a no go as far as I'm concerned. Maybe I'm an old, but I no longer value rides that see how much they can beat me up.

I've been to Magic Mountain a few times, that wood coaster there-if it's still there-is pretty awesome. I've been to that one in Vegas too, super fast, not wood, but it pulls some Gs, love it. I really should go back to Magic Mountain though.

Why would the dangers involved with roller coasters and earth quakes be any different on a 1 track roller coaster than a 2 track one? I't not like the supports are single poles under the track or that it doesn't double back on itself like every roller coaster ever.
