So some containers are on fire now?  Wanna bet they held stuff with lithium ion batteries....

Apparently half the crew has been taken off the ship so far. Two of the containers hold 58,000 kilos of potassium amylxanthate.

There is a big windstorm forecasted to hit in the next few hours.

Fun fact. Potassium amylxanthate is the most common ingredient in the manufacturing of buttplugs.

I guess.
Seems like too much, to me.
I'd like a brake down of how the pandemic is doing this much crap.

Other than the million people killed.
So maybe letting people  wasn't free?

Some things have to be stored under water.  Some things have to be stored under kerosene.  And some things have to be stored where the sun don't shine.

This one was hurricane-force winds offshore. Some combination of "climate change" and "shiat happens".

They also said the vessel itself is not on fire and that there is currently no risk to the public onshore."

Okay so apparently that butt-plugged shaped bottle is just the way the Chinese display their chemical samples.

I still have questions, but I cannot express how disappointed I am to learn there is not a chemical engineering related reason why  potassium amylxanthate is stored in a butt-plug.

Sweet Jeebus that's funny.

It's from the late 80's I believe. The guys in the clip did hundreds of them over a few decades, John Clarke (the bald guy) was interviewed each week in the persona of someone in the news (often a politician) but never put on a wig or did voices, he just answered the questions in that same dry style. He passed away a few years ago sadly, was a legend of Australian tv having started off in his home country of New Zealand as a character called Fred Dagg who was a sheep farmer. Google Fred Dagg and you'll find some brilliant comedy.

Here's a fantastic film (shot on film) in 1974.

You can track the Zim Kingston -- and a bunch of the rescue activity on the app Marine Traffic.  The attached image shows the container ship immediately south of Victoria (the round green dot).  There are also a number of tugs active in the Straits of San Juan de Fuca west of Victoria -- and some orange buoys that I believe map the floating containers near Bamfield (off this map to the west):

Spontaneously combusting buttplugs, for when you want a night of sex that's really, really hot, or because you want the evidence to destroy itself before your in-laws come to visit for the holidays?

The compound, which is used in mining, is classified by the U.S. government as "spontaneously combustible."

But the ship is in Canadian waters, so what's the problem?

You totally pulled that fact out of your ass.

Okay! So fun fact. Those Chinese chemical sample vials are shaped like butt plugs for a reason. You see they sit upside down with the stopper on the bottom and are shaped like that so that if the chemical inside the vial is extremely reactive and is somehow ignited the vial becomes a rocket that flies up and away instead of exploding like a grenade, possibly around other vials of volatile chemical samples. So they're shaped like butt plugs for safety reasons.

Did I pull that out of my ass? Yeah... yeah I did. I have no idea why Chinese chemical sample bottles look like butt-plugs.

The Coast Guard said Zim Kingston is carrying more than 52,000 kilograms of xanthates, which includes potassium amylxanthate, housed in two of the containers that are on fire aboard the ship.
The compound, which is used in mining, is classified by the U.S. government as "spontaneously combustible." Potassium amylxanthate is also toxic to marine life.

You fools, you foolish fools! If only you had moved this material using the transporter from Star Trek instead!

It does kinda look like a butt-plug full of quadrotriticale. I think I read a slash-fic once that had them beaming a bunch of them on board.

Maybe they are shaped that way so you can't leave the container open thus reducing the chance of a random spill. Just a thought.
