What a shiat show that game was, but great upset

What a horrible rule.

If you wanna do the "two point conversion" thing, at least keep all teams on the same side of the field. Don't waste the time.

I was there. I can't believe Penn State lost to these guys. You won't believe how many fans say let him go to USC or LSU. This loss hurts. PSU should not lose to teams like that.

I am astounded that a 9 OT game is scored so low.

I was expecting like an 84-82 score or something.

They should alternate deeper and deeper FG attempts and 2 pt conversation starting points

The College rules are so stupid. I like the NFHS Texas shooter rules:

- Each team gets 4 tries from the 10 yard line to score a TD + PAT. Basically a regular 1st and goal series. They can choose to kick a FG on the 4th down so special teams are still in play.
- After the first series the team that goes second must force a result (ie: if the 1st team gets 7, the 2nd team must go for 8).

This really settles a lot of games fast and it keeps all aspects of the game in play (offense, defense, special teams).

I flipped that game on in the third OT, and it felt like I still got to watch a full game.

I think they should switch ends but start the play clock immediately so the players are racing down the field.

James Franklin has snatched "defeat from the jaws of victory" in numerous games over the years at Penn State with his questionable play calling.

IDK, after the teams failed to convert a 2 pt conversion 5x in a row...I'm thinking maybe if neither team scores, move it a yard closer. If both teams score, move the attempt back.

Illinois should've won that game like a half-dozen times, they had people open on just about every one of those conversion passes. They almost even blew the last one, waiting until the receiver was almost covered to throw it.

I was hoping after 10 OT the tiebreaker was "pistols at midfield", a duel between head coaches.

THIS!

Keep channel-surfing back and forth to see who finally won because it was an upset in the making but damn! The new overtime rule is definitely not viewer-friendly!

The only way it could have been Big Tennier would be to have a simultaneous 17-14 slugfest with Michigan State going down.

Alright. And it's still weird to think Iowa gave PSU a safety to keep the lead

That sounds really good, especially how "forcing a result" could impact decisions on choosing offense or defense first at the coin flip.

Couple questions:
1) Does forcing a result apply if the first team kicks a FG (second team is TD or bust), or just on conversions?
2) Can the first team attempt a conversion to create a win/tie scenario (if successful) instead of a win/lose one?

Yes.

No breaks. Just make them continue to sprint.

If one player dies? The other team wins.

Oh my this is even better than I imagined.

Some Penn State fans wanting a new coach.

Pleeeease fark this up and let him go elsewhere.. I'd be happy if I never heard from that program again after the Entertainment and Sports Pedophilia Network held their hand in the.showers and thrust them into the national spotlight as they were still washing the f*cking showers.

CFB changed their shiatty overtime rules to make them shiattier by having the teams only go for 2 point conversions after the 2nd overtime.

Forcing a result just means you cannot tie. Whatever the first team gets, you must beat them or lose. So if the first team gets 3, you cannot kick for 3. You must score 6. Similarly, if the first team scores 7 (6 + 1), then you must go for 8 (6+2).

The only exception of course is if the first team scores 8 -- the highest possible score -- then the second team must match that to prolong the OT. But any score less than that, and they must force a result. I've seen this happen on a couple occasions, but given the risk-averse nature of football coaches, the team that scores first rarely goes for 8 (they only do so if their QB is a stud and their kicker is shiat). OTs are usually over by the 2nd or 3rd "inning".

A turnover instantly ends a series. There are no defensive scores or pick sixes.

I don't know why we're trying to change what was the most entertaining way to end a game.

But since y'all are trying to make things worse, I'll help: you could have each team take on the other team at opposite ends of the field. So it'd be the Illinois offense vs the PSU defense on one end, PSU offense vs Illinois defense on the other. I guess it'd be tough to referee, but simultaneous plays mean they don't know WHAT they have to go for! Half the crowd is cheering, half the crowd is upset, no one knows WHAT'S going on!

2021-10-24 8:35:15 PM
Either play the game until there's a winner or the with a tie. What is described in TFA makes no sense.

It's misleading to call those OTs. They weren't playing full quarters.

Why is it that Penn State is almost always on the wrong side of history?

Penn State really needs to better recruit offensive linemen and running backs. Sean Clifford should not have played since he was still hurt. The OL needs to get bigger.
