(Fox News)   Dumb Mistake? Never had race issues you were aware of growing up in Syracuse? You never heard of the Syracuse 8 I guess. Or the 15th ward. Or how 2/3 of Syracuse blacks live so far the poverty line they can't afford a bus to get to a poll   (foxnews.com) divider line

My great uncle lived at the top of Onondaga Hill until he died in his late 80s back in 2006.

He was a raging racist, belonged to an all white country club, and donated enough money to Syracuse University that he has a wing and golf tournament named after him.

He and a lot of people like him are the reason Syracuse is so blighted and segregated now.

1. None of the things about which subby complains are covered in the article.
2. None of the things about which subby complains are in Virginia, where McAuliffe is running for governor.
3, The article subby does provide is only Fox News being extremely butthurt that the bad-faith controversy they ginned up over an entirely different politician appearing in blackface in college, hasn't hurt McAuliffe. Despite the long history of Fox News arguing that such things shouldn't be held against GOP politicians.

McAuliffe was born in 1957. The entire 15th ward "urban renewal" thing was done by 1966, before McAuliffe was 10.  The Syracuse 8 happened in 1970 when he was 13.  How much media coverage of these things do you think made it into the path of a white pre-teen in the late 60s? How much of it would have reported fairly on the racial issues instead of pretending it was all about economics?

Subby must be so triggered that McAuliffe's GOP opponent is being exposed for the two-faced anti-democracy plutocrat that he is to try such weak, weak sauce in a vain attempt to soothe his burnt soul.

Even if you choose to live in a cave in the wilderness, so long as the government knows you exist it should be obligated to ensure you have convenient access to a polling station.

That your government might look at your situation and say, "Hey, how about I make it as inconvenient as I have to in order to stop you from voting?" is something that should have you thinking, "You know, we ought to hang a few of those bastards so they start respecting us again".  Specifically, the ones who are trying so hard to disenfranchise anyone who lives in an area that isn't guaranteed to vote fascist.

I was born in 1985 so therefore it's okay if I claim I've never heard of Martin Luther King jr.

Conservative ideology says American history that makes conservatives feel bad should not be taught.  How was Mcauliffe supposed to learn the history when conservatives lie about or delete  it to safe their fragile egos?

His family had no racism issues while he was growing up?

Neither did mine, because we lived in all white communities and didn't interact with black people.

My ItalianAmerican family is from Syracuse.

Yeah, there is plenty of racism there.

It's not shame, it's an attempt to avoid the consequences of their actions.

Sadly seconded.

The nearest black people to where I lived 50 years ago were in Oakland. The only reason I didn't grow up into a casual racist is because my mom wouldn't let me.

I really don't care if McAuliffe dresses up in blackface on Election Day, provided he doesn't push the insane policies of what the Republican Party has become.

We've got bigger fish to fry than someone's bad attempt at humor in college 40 years ago.

Ignoring subby's absurd headline...

It was definitely racist, it was definitely dumb, it was definitely a mistake. Was it not 40 years ago? There is no contradiction, no walk-back. I'm not getting the outrage.

Did the mods change what subby wrote because some of the things you're biatching about aren't even mentioned by subby.  Sounds like you're the triggered one.

Poor in Northern NY is really farking poor. And there are practically no black people, not even at the army base about an hour North of Syracuse .  It's the whitest place I have ever been, unless you count that time I accidentally went to a carnival that was hosted by the Sons of the Confederacy. But at any rate, it's also racist as fark. I can't tell you how many confederate flags I saw hanging around in NNY. So he's either stupid or a liar. There was definitely racism in NNY
