Boxty.

Or champ, that is good too. There are hundreds of uses for mashed spuds.

I wonder if you could make something similar to tamale pie with a mashed potato top instead of cornbread and perhaps chicken or pork instead of red meat?

Save them up for Halloween to give out to trick or treaters.

Telephone Sanitizer Second Class: Save them up for Halloween to give out to trick or treaters.

wut! no! I thought we agreed we're giving out all the excess sauce-packets this year.

Saute some onions, leave the pan greasy, mix the SO and some chopped green onions with the marshed 'taters (garlic as well for those inclined), drop a large spoonful into that hot/greasy pan, smash it flat, fry it, put a pat of butter on it, flip it, fry it, and eat it with everything from bacon to apple sauce.

Bonus, cook bacon first, saute the onions in the bacon fat, crumble the bacon and add it to the mash with the onions and other onions.

fark now I'm hungry.

I see Potato Patties has been covered... you can also cook ground beef, add it to the potatoes with some gravy & make FL. Shepard's Pie.

/ that's what it was called when I was in 1st grade in FL.

Looks damn tasty, but I'm already planning on trout to soak up some of the ghost pepper peri peri sauce I made earlier this week. Think I'll do a smoked paprika, green onion, and garlic version of the fried potato patties. And maybe some seared asparagus on the side.

Mashed potatoes with cheese, chives, and bacon.

Roll into balls and freeze.

Egg wash, bread, and deep fry.

Hazy guesswork:
1 cup mashed potatoes
1 cup AP flour
1/4 cup sugar
1 egg
1 tbs baking powder
1 tbs vanilla
milk enough to make thick batter/slurry
spoon drop into hot oil until golden brown (tbs yields racquet ball sized puffball)
serve with maple syrup
Thanks Gma.

cretinbob: What are leftover mashed potatoes?

That's what happens when you let an idiot do the cooking and they use a half tablespoon of margarine and a cup of skim milk in their hand mixer gluey potatoes.  Salt? What? That's what the gravy is for.

Throw them in the trash before you're tempted to all the butter/oil/fat/salt to make them vaguely palatable.  Vow to prepare smaller portions next time.

Who the fark is that guy and what does he know? I've never seen him on Instagram, and never once did he shout a catchphrase, mug at the camera, or talk about how tough being a mom is.

This is a side gig. His fame came from his work on porn hub.

I do something similar to this, with a layer of sweet corn and onions as well. It's a good budget shephards/cottage pie type use for leftover taters and ground beef.

Bubble and/or squeak.

In my exploration of UK "cuisine," I recently made fish pie.  Probably the first mashed potatoes I've made in two or three years.

It was... fine.  And beige.  SO BEIGE.

I understand that people will eat damn near anything when they're at war and there are rations or whatever, but I'm glad that experiment is over.

I think maybe leeks would be good too - there's some things I prefer to have fewer ingredients. I don't care for corn in recipes, I prefer eating it as it's own thing.
I had Progresso's Chick & Dumplings soup last night and was sorely disappointed. It had carrots & corn in it. Would not buy again.

That sounds good, but also labor-intensive. Could you scale it down a bit?  ;-)

We just made it tonight for our 10th anniversary dinner (!) and it was awesome. Used parm instead of gruyere though.
