I don't understand why we allow chases like that unless there's a clear and immediate danger to someone in the car.
There are usually a thousand safer ways to arrest someone.

TedCruz'sCrazyDad: They got the guy though, right?

Unlikely.  He was only charged.  There's still plenty of opportunity for the prosecution to botch the trial.

Minneapolis doesn't allow chases like that. The cop was violating policy. This prosecution wouldn't happen in a lot of cities because the rules allows cops to engage in high speed chases to apprehend someone who stole a pack of tic-tacs.

If I'd done the same thing, with exactly the same conditions and the same cop had exactly the preceding day that led him to the chase-n-shoot special, I would hope it would be the exact same outcome.  Other than the whole manslaughter thing.

Sure just as long as you charge the fleeing driver with the same charge the cop was only 50% of the problem.

- When fleeing cops, make sure to drive as fast as possible! If you get into an accident, it's the cop who will be blamed by the virtuous society and not you, the criminal, who started the whole dangerous situation in the first place!

Because the pigs might get a shootout and we all know how fun those are. Like the one in Florida, they might even kill a UPS driver and threaten the lives of dozens of others.

Listen here, pal. We took an oath and graduated from the academy because we wanted to catch the bad guys. That's it. Plain and simple. It's tough to turn that switch off, even though we might be endangering the public we were sworn to protect. I'd go to war with this officer all day long, and I'm sorry you wouldn't.

It seems like the cops should have a plan for catching a fleeing criminal other than speeding after them at 90-100 mph in a residential area.

The cop wasn't a murderer, he merely had a psychopathic indifference towards human life.

But that's not what happened here. The fleeing criminal wasn't the one who hit anyone. That was the policeman.

"At the intersection of 41st Avenue North and Lyndale Avenue North, the black Kia ran a red light at approximately 100 miles per hour. The Kia narrowly missed a car driven by the victim. [Officer] Cummings, traveling at 90 miles an hour, entered the intersection and struck the car occupied by the victim at approximately 78 miles per hour, the court papers indicate."

Even Floyd's death wasn't a murder plot. It was murder but there was no plot, just police serving and protecting in their accustomed fashion with reckless disregard for non-blue lives, same as here.

Ask them nicely not to flee?

How about not flipping on your lights in a residential area when keeping tabs on a suspect. Call it in, get other cars with lights off in the area to keep tabs. But nooo, that's not going to make you a hero. The Kia was probably about to stop somewhere, but you spooked them. Now they got away.

That's the same bullshiat you guys use when you throw a flashbang into an infants crib.

If you hadn't pissed of the cops, scum, then we wouldn't have had to burn your baby.

Plus if your high speed chase kills one of us subhumans, then you get to charge the guy who is running away with murder instead of just killing him to get your rocks off.

So now you're a hero who got to beat a murderer to death and you get a promotion and a cash bonus and shiat.

And yes, this is how cops actually think about civilian scum. Why else would you use words like "sheeple" or "NHI"?

Texas Gabe: innocent motorist

lol that's kind of hilarious. While obviously this dunce of a cop ignored protocol and escalated this chase, ultimately causing someone's death, I think that an innocent motorist would have... pulled over, rather than drive 100 mph in a residential neighborhood, risking the lives of others just because he was too selfish to accept responsibility for his actions.

99.999999999% of the time they have no point.  Life isn't James Bond or Lethal Weapon. A vast majority of the time in these cases the most dangerous crime the 'perp' has committed is getting scared that a cop was following them and driving away.
You are not going to save the world by chasing a paranoid schizophrenic at 100 mph through a residential area.  It is, however a sign that the cops doing this have a full-blown case of testosterone poisoning and/or Warrior's code training.

What's hilarious is your utter lack of reading comprehension skills. The bad guy got away and the cop collided with an innocent motorist:

Check out this poster.

They think loss of life is as bad as loss of vehicle.

They are trying to justify the police killing someone due to reckless disregard for life while attempting to catch a suspected car thief.

They are, in so doing, attempting to shield shiatty police action while justifying murder over property.

What a farked up moral compass they have.

Jeez, I admitted to my mistake, you'd think a well-adjusted individual would just leave it at that, but you're really determined to point out that someone else made a mistake.
