Just recover all federal property / business from the state of Texas and cast them loose.

At this point, they're beyond saving.

Blow up all the federal infrastructure on our way out too

I've always assumed that it will be CA that leaves the USA.

Starting to think it's gonna be Texas.

It's pathetic pandering to the overwhelmingly bumpkin demographic he represents to shore up votes next year, just in case there are any bumpkins who might think he's gone liebrul on them.

Well, time to see if Oracle, Tesla, HP and others  might consider relocating HQ to another state that doesn't conflict with their HR policies for employees. And this could affect recruitment of tech employees to TX.

But they're all about freedom in Texas. You know smaller, less intrusive government.

Toyota completed their HQ migration here a couple years ago.  I doubt they will tolerate this.

If you're a married same sex couple. And your company is relocating to Texas and you've been asked to relocate or lose your job. That could be considered your company requiring you to move to a 'hostile work environment'...especially if you're in the process of adopting a child.

At their leadership level currently, sure.

But, Texas population itself is nearly 50/50 at this point, and most of their metro areas are as "left" as most other large cities.  There are numerous other states that have much more conservative populations, if we are going to "cast out" states like that.

As stated, Texas's large metro areas go distinctly blue.   Both Oklahoma and West Virginia didn't have ANY counties (including OKC's county) that went for Biden.

My point... if nearly half the people of Texas aren't worth saving, then neither is our country as a whole.

/which, might be your larger point.

You are making a giant leap to what those companies' HR policies are.  Generally HR's policies can be summed up with "cower peasant scum".  If they thought they could get more free labor from the breeders, they would crawl over broken glass to set LGBTQIA employees on fire outside the break room as an object lesson.

So, what is Toyota going to do? Sternly written letters O MY. And still the fact it exists can be a 'hostile work environment' for employees requested to move to Texas.

Now that Texas republicans and the theocrats of the previous SCOTUS have declared MCCULLOCH v Marylandhas no meaning it is time for good and decent State ban entry of any terrorist supporters (republicans)  into their states. Time for check points on the Texas borders to prevent republican terrorists from attacking other states.

Conservative whites have had such an easy time of things in Texas that now that they've finally noticed the demographic writing on the wall they aren't just mad, they're startled

In the late 80's...early 90's. Our University  had several of the doctors in microbiology, physics, neurology..etc at the Hospital make a very persuasive argument to the board to cover same sex couples on the Uni's health care plan. This was before 'marriage rights'.
The argument was "It really makes recruitment of decent talent difficult without these coverages"
We were early beneficiaries of that plan, as my SO and I where both employees. While 'married' people could just check off a box on their health ins form to cover their spouse not even having to show a license....we had to bring a certified letter showing 'limited power of attorney', bills from several months showing our joint bank account and power and CC bills, bank records for 6 months with address showing we were living together, a shrubbery and pictures of puppies.
Straight couples just checked a box off and 'we're all good here' here's your insurance card.

You guys remember this classic painting from Fark's favorite "fine artist," Jon McNaughton?

Fark user imageView Full Size

One of the things that made this painting so legendary is that this guy does more labeling than Ben Garrison, but he does it in a supplemental legend, with each bullet point linking to a screed about how the thing is either good or bad.

And sure enough, if you go to #57, "Notorious Court Cases," you find these gems:

"Martin v. Hunter Losee [sic.*]
This gives the Supreme Court ultimate authority over state courts in matters of Federal Law.

Marbury v. Madison
This case allows for judicial review of the Constitution and made it possible for appointed activist judges to interpret the constitution, creating a new mandate that in turn becomes the law of the land."

So yes, one of many meaty lumps in this stew of crazy is that the ability of the Supreme Court to evaluate the constitutionality of laws (particularly state laws) is a great sin that makes Baby Jesus cry.

Extreme conservatives have wanted to attack Judicial Review for a long time.

* I'm pretty sure he means "Martin v. Hunter's Lessee," and it's just been completely wrong for years

Texas isn't going to change anytime soon.

Maddow last night was showing how Texas is getting 2 new Representative districts due to the 2020 census.  85% of the population growth is from people of color, but the 2 new districts are in white-majority areas and they are actually eliminating the only black-majority district in the state.

Yay, Gerrymandering, I guess

Look, idiots - you've had 200+ years to overturn judicial review by a constitutional amendment. Don't start whining now just because it's not going your way.

They stuck it to California, so no, I don't see them leaving.

Tax savings matter more than human rights.

The TX legislature is making all sorts of laws (and Abbot is signing them) that violate the constitution and the Supremacy clause because they want to be seen as taking on the federal government.

It doesn't matter if they lose in the courts over and over again (and that's necessarily a sure thing) because they'll just keep filling their campaign coffers on keeping the fight going

At this rate they'll be looking at rolling back BvBOE before next March. Hell I'm sure they've got something written up to roll back civil rights based on race and emancipation somewhere just waiting to pull it out once they've ran through everything else.

Ok, so according ti the Texas GOP, segregated schools are A-OK, Women cannot vote (I assume there is an exemption for Republican woman), abortion is illegal, and screw any arrested person's rights such as a free lawyer if they're poor or reading of the Miranda warning.

The wife and I would like to see Austin some day, but we refuse to spend so much as one farking penny in that state until they kick the regressive authoritarian scumbags to the curb, so our personal boycott's probably going to last forever. And fark them.

It's especially sad for the Hispanic population. They drove 50% of the population increase and they habe enough people in DFW to create THEIR OWN DISTRICT but they're being broken apart.

Revoke Texas statehood already. Let them be a shiathole territory without full representation in congress or the senate. Make Puerto Rico a state at the same time and you won't even need to change the flag.

Bowen: If you live in TX and can afford to move, you should probably do so. It's not like things are going to suddenly stop getting worse.

I did. I was able to afford it because the housing market there exploded. Funny thing, though, Zillow has already dropped their asking price by 15k and it's now only $300 over what they paid us for it. Guess I'll add lucky timing to the whole thing as well.
