Hey, remember when people said that Brexit would make the UK so awesome the EU would be begging to make trade deals?

I remember when we thought Europe might unify into a meaningful global force.

Putin's troll farms have been very politically profitable.

Unless they're Democrats? Because that seems to be a prevailing position 'round these parts.

You see, Britain? You see what happens when you elect a total fark-muppet to your highest office? This is what you get, and you deserve it. You showed your ass, and now here's the paddle.

Yeah but multiple fark-muppets were involved.   One of them had to step down because she couldn't handle the heat.

That's nonsense. Everywhere in the world is experiencing problems with trade in North Ireland due to reasons unrelated to Brexit. Trucker shortages in the EU? A result of covid in Belfast. Cargo ships stuck off the coast of California? Someone sneezed in Derry. China sabre rattling over Taiwan? Douglas O'Rourke cursed at the Tory government. As you can plainly see, Brexit really is all sunshine and roses.

This was Boris's play even before the agreement was signed. Nice to know the EU will roundly bash his tallywacker with a big stick if and when he does it. Something, something, actions, something, something, consequences. When you deal in bad faith, you're on the dark side.

There is a Mennonite idea that it is nearly impossible to un-introduce an idea once it has been introduced.

This also applies to technology.

So, they discuss at great length before they introduce anything new. This includes ramifications of decisions, and what to do if something goes wrong.

It is the closest I've seen to responsible conservatism. And it is still pretty farked up in certain areas, but young mennonites have been sliding a few things in, under the radar (like "love thy neighbor" doesn't concern itself with skin color or orientation).

Unfortunately, brexit was done in the reverse. The decisions were made, and then the consequences were discussed.

So I'm gonna guess that the spin is gonna be 'The EU is being unfairly mean to the UK by threatening to cancel the deal!' instead of 'The deal is gonna be canceled if the UK breaks the terms of the agreement, because that's how deals work'.

Kinda like how Trump broke the Iran deal and then blamed Obama when Iran acted like the deal was no longer in place.

Right from the get go experts to farmers were warning everyone that the Irish border was going to fark things up because the Tories were stupid that way.  And just like everything else, it was ignored because God Save the Queen, Dunkirk Spirit, the sun never sets on the Empire!

As the American South has also been called "Dixie," perhaps a short but humorous term for the desire of those in the South to secede should be called "Dixit?"

I got blocked on Twitter by a Tory MP for pointing out that Lord Frost was angry about the deal he himself negotiated and which won the Tories general election (and got him a lordship). They're sensitive about being caught being lying liars who lie.

Also worth noting Frost's opinions before he was bought off with a peerage:
