$60 is pretty damn steep, even for a 3-pack of remasters of games that are 16-20 years old.  They look pretty decent, I'l give them that, though certainly not mind-blowing in any way shape or form.  No mention if all the original songs on the radio stations are still there, though.  I'll probably wishlist it and wait for a sale.  I have all the originals anyway.

The soundtracks are a real concern. As I recall they started quietly removing tracks from the Steam versions years after release, as their licenses expired

That's a big thing I'm concerned about.  They were a big part of the whole GTA experience.  They could renew the licenses, and that could be a reason the pack is as expensive as it is, but I'm not holding my breath 'til I've read some reviews that can tell me if anything's missing.

I'd easily pay $20 a piece for each one so $60 seems fair to me.

And I'll just run the soundtracks through Spotify if they don't have them, and I'll biatch about it but they'll still get my money.

I wouldn't mind an option to buy each game individually.  I was never a fan of vanilla GTA III.  Vice City and San Andreas added some much needed flavor to the formula of the first one.

I will probably buy this... if only to incentivize R* to also port/modernize Red Dead Redemption.

Crawling around Mexico as John Marston, in the RDR2 engine? Sign me tf up.

Same here, I still only owned one of those besides number five but I have zero interest in spending $60 on games that are over 20 years old. If Rockstar wants my money then they can make a new game. At this rate however, by the time they do make the new game I'll probably be dead of old age.

It'd be nice if they gave people that option. I'm pumped to dive into all three. I liked the 2D ones on the Playstation and still remember thinking there was no way they could pull it off in 3D at the time. Been a long while since I played III and I'm looking forward to planting bombs with 8Ball again.

Would've been cool if they'd tossed in the Tales from Liberty and Vice City games as well. Those weren't as good but still were fun to play through.

San Andreas will be on Gamepass. Which is annoying as it's the game I'm least excited about playing.

Vice City, then GTA3.

Man, am I the only one who preferred 3 over VC?

Don't get me wrong, VC added some great things like flying, but 3 had more interesting storylines.

/Though the third island stories are a blur

2021-10-22 5:56:34 PM
I never played any of them past 1 or 2 until I got to 5 and then I ended up spending 50 hours on the golf course lol.

That said, I enjoyed the original 2 GTAs but the missions just became impossibly hard about halfway through each syndicate. I don't think I ever came close to beating either of them. If they balanced the difficulty a bit then I'm in.

We really need to lock down the terms "remake" and "remaster". Usually remaster is a splash of updated textures and lighting over stilted mechanics and vectors. Remakes are full-on current tech versions of the old games.

I'm cautiously optimistic now. But "remaster" is a bad word in my house.

And yes. RDR1 rebuilt with RDR2 textures and engine makes my nips perky. Somebody hurry up and plan a Mediterranean jewel heist while these things are still useful.

You're thinking of GTA IV.  San Andreas was where you had to constantly maintain Carl's appearance to whatever level you wanted, lest he get ridiculously skinny or horrendously fat.

No I understood the difference between the gsmes. It was just another roleplaying element I didn't like

I will probably give in eventually... but much sooner if the reviews are good.

2021-10-22 11:48:37 PM
It's going to take more than higher resolution, new textures, brightening up the colors and lighting effects for me to buy it.

The characters still look blocky. The "non" hands always bothered me, and although it looks like the "fingers" are more defined, it still looks blocky and non functional.

I also hope they got rid of some of the more difficult missions. (Or make remote controlled vehicles easier to handle.)  Especially that stupid Zero plane mission.

And, I'd hope they've fixed the lack of traffic and pedestrians in downtown San Andreas. (As well as the huge swaths of nothing in the wilderness.)

Vice City audio was an necessary part of the experience, I hope the soundtrack is largely intact.  Even if it upgrades the graphics (that to be fair look pretty bad after 19 years but who among us can't say the same thing), the experience was enhanced by the proper tunes as you went around Miami in a coke filled rage.

Large game studios can work on more than one game at once, film at 11.

The real question is did they keep the "hot coffee" hidden section in the game? We could have a whole new slew of politicians getting their panties in a bunch.

Of the GTA 3s, that would be San Andreas.  At the time of release, it was the largest "world" of any videogame.

Since then I'm pretty sure one of the GTA5 releases have beaten it

Even if they have, it's a decade away. No-one at R* has confirmed it's even in the works. Every now and again morons like MrBossWTF will lose his shiat and make another 11-minutes video repeated someone else's unconfirmed rumours after someone who did mocap for GTAV has suddenly got another imdb listing, before realising it's just for another DLC.

Rockstar are making so much bread from GTA Online they don;t even need to make a sequel at this point

I was talking to my 16 year old about this yesterday. In terms of actual map size GTAV is monumentally larger, but when you think about the time it takes to drive all the way around the map, it's pretty similar, I daresay SA is a little bit longer. But it's all about scaling & relative speed. Driving from the middle if the city to Paleto Bay is about the same as getting from the city in San Andreas up to San Fierro.
