Please add another name to the jersey on purpose!

Seriously though, I don't know that I would pay Baker franchise QB money when his time comes. He's okay enough, but may need to accept that he's more of a game manager. But maybe he makes enough from his ads that he won't ask for the stars and moon.

It's one game, and it's the Broncos, who couldn't pressure Big Ben or Derek Carr.  The Broncos have lost four straight now, and their only wins are Giants, Jets, and Jags.  The Broncos are not a good team.

Oh ffs. The Cleveland Defense gave up 14 points. That's the story here. Sure Keenum played decently but he didn't have to throw it  50 times to keep the Browns in the game.

Mayfield is probably Ryan Tannehill level as far as talent goes. Not terrible and definitely is starter level quality, but isn't the reason why you'll win, and the running game is what stirs the drink for the offense. I'd say the Browns should base his salary on whatever Tannehill makes (adjusted for inflation) and go no higher than that.

THIS.

Also the Broncos are not that good.

Keenum is a good backup. Case closed.

This should have been a blowout by the Browns, and Keenum kept it close. So, a pretty good backup, but not a starter.

The real story here was me being able to pick up D'ernest Johnson when I was last in the waiver line! WOO HOO!!

But, seriously. Baker is your guy. Just hope he can pull through the surgery if they do that. Case is not a long-term solution.

Fairly sound. With the Browns luck at QB, why risk losing someone that has gotten you to the playoffs?

The Broncos will lose to Detroit.  I'll calling it here right now.

Just a reminder that Case Keenum was a top 5 quarterback in the NFL over the 2017 season.
Under the right circumstances he demonstrated he could be good enough to start for a team.  Maybe that circumstance is playing for Andy Reid, but there's something there.

I think Baker has the talent and is worth the money, but unless he can figure out how to make better decisions on the move he'll keep getting hurt.  You can't bet the farm on a QB that's taking preventable hard hits on a consistent basis

I think my entire league put in a waiver for him.  I was 4th in line.  Didn't get it.

At times he really does look like a legitimately good starting QB.  How he went undrafted out of college is a mystery to me.  Maybe it was the knee injury near the end of his time at Houston that worried the scouts.

In theory, neither should Baker.

But either he or Stefanski has it in their heads that he needs to be the savior when he's in there.  Without that pressure, they did the sensible thing with a lead in the 4th quarter: turn, hand off, eat clock. It helps that the RB, even if he was an RB3 (Nick who? Kareem who?), knew how to get to the sticks when he needed to.

I have heard exactly zero Browns fans say "Baker who?"

I mean, Keenum did a great job last night! Both star RB's were out, so he had to sling it. And when he needed to run it, The Ernest Johnson stepped up & literally made a name for himself. But no one is like, "Keenum is the face of this franchise now!" That's the bananas talkin, pal.

2021-10-22 4:07:25 PM
With all due respect to Case Keenum, Baker's job is safe.  But he is one of the better backups in the league.  Certainly better than some of the others taking snaps this week.  (glares accusingly at Geno Smith)

Baker Mayfield defines the word "serviceable" where NFL quarterbacks are concerned.

If they can trade for Russell Wilson or Aaron Rodgers and take a two-year, go for broke shot at it?  You make the deal and take the gamble.  The team is that close with the right guy at the helm.

But Baker Mayfield isn't that guy.

I would rather have 15 years of winning seasons than blowing the wad to get one Super Bowl and four to six years of "rebuilding", especially because "rebuilding" is a dirty word in Cleveland.

Which is why the Omar haters ought to be punched in the mouth, for being whiny biatchy pussies for having 15 years of being good if not always great and still being farking assholes about it.

My main takeaway from watching that game is that Cleveland has a really good O line.  Their defense isn't bad either.  Nothing against Case or Baker.  Keenum would be an upgrade at QB for a few teams out there and is one of the best backups in the game right now but he's not anyone's answer for a franchise QB.  Baker isn't going to make the elite list any time soon, but he's still the best QB the Browns have had in a generation.

Err, he was #2 in completion % and the horrendous QBR stat that ESPN made up so as to justify their slurping of Michael Vick pre-dog.

He was not a top 5 quarterback that year or ever. In fact, the best QB performance that season by a Viking's QB was Sam Bradford in game 1.

Make no mistake, he was good that year, but the why is because he didn't turn the ball over and the Vikings had a great defense. Until.the playoffs.

The ceiling for a team with Keenum at quarterback can be established with the following question:

"Case, can you read the clock for me? Does it say 6:22 or does it say 38 to 7?"

I literally went by the stats when replying. I also cited the best game in that same season being thrown by the original starter, Sam Bradford. He had a comparable QB rating to Keenum's best game and did so against a better defense than Keenum faced in his best game. Granted, Keenum put up far lesser numbers against that team in the playoffs but won that game because he had some guy who's now a star in Buffalo to throw to.

Not only am I going by stats, I'm going by other things. The eye tests during that year, Keenum was a glaring anomaly even on Fark. We all remember wondering when the luck would run out, and admittedly laughed in his favor when it happened against the Saints in the playoffs.

Nobody, in their right God damned mind, would have labeled him as a top 5 QB that season if you actually watched football.
Then reality set in.

Refute my point.

2021-10-23 4:06:27 AM
Go back. Seriously. Fark threads exist. Us football posters are rather steady. We don't go anywhere m

Did anyone who wasn't a f*cking idiot put Case Keenum as a top 5 QB aside from maybe two weekly performances? Not even Vikings fans were doing that.

The debate was "this proves how worthless Sam Bradford is" and not "how valuable Case Keenum is". And the Vikings apparently agreed. And history apparently agreed.

2021-10-23 4:08:00 AM
To reiterate: if Case Keenum was a top 5 QB in any season ever to you, stop watching ESPN or start watching football.

2021-10-23 4:18:14 AM
Hey, I know! Grandma's Dildo can cite people who put him in the top 5 that season, on the field.

I don't care really what pundits say, pundits got us an orange President.

Any experts list him there? Contemporary CBs as an example? Anyone say "man, I'm scared of that motherfarker Case Keenum."?
