I mean, the whole bit was set up by him horrified that a trans person would dare tell him that they were bothered by his comments on trans people in previous specials.  It really felt like some Fox News segment on "woke culture" to me.

Dave doesn't need to talk. Dave's done enough talking.

What Dave should try to do is listen.

Actually:
"Dave stands by his art: No more jokes about transgenders until we can all laugh together," an unidentified representative told TMZ.

Sounds better to me.

Can't you read? Dave Chappelle is the victim here. Dave Chappelle is the only one whose opinion matters. Not transgender people, and certainly not transgender people of color, the most coddled and privileged majority of them all. These humorless and easily triggered Moral Majority transgender people need to just STOP looking at the statistics of violence against transgender women of color and just LEARN TO TAKE A JOKE. It's comedy, people!

In the business of forgiveness, it helps a little bit to have an apology.

They should meet with him and shout his catchphrases at him until he runs away.

Never gonna run around and play dumb games
Always gonna make him cry
Always gonna say goodbye
Always gonna tell him how you're Rick James

The cognitive dissonance in his last special was amazing. When he tells his "I had a trans friend. She was one of the good ones" story at the end of the set...Did he not see the obvious comparison there?

I thought Dave Chappelle died several  years ago until this whole mess came out. So, I guess his publicity stunt is working.

This continued trend of Entertainers mutating into BS "Truth Keepers" is beyond tiring.

You punched down, Dave. Now you want to explain yourself and have a dialog, how very Hannity of you.

Good.  He should.  I love Dave as a comedian, but he should apologize.

I'm generally all for comedians getting to say things the rest of us can't.  They often have to go over the line in a joke's creation to then pull it back to where it should be.  But if it made it to the Netflix special, that was a finished product.  Don't punch down.

Did Andre Serrano apologize about the crucifix in a jar of pee?

Perhaps the trans community could enlighten us as to the appropriate humor we should use as to not offend their delicates selves.

I kind of bought into that narrative before I actually watched the special, which I found funny (not his best work but I certainly LOLed a few times, and ultimately rather poignant.

I dunno, maybe I just have outrage fatigue, but this take kind of take seems to be almost the polar opposite "message" I took away from his act.

That's not what it is

Dave pretty obviously has issues with trans people. He keeps bringing it up. He needs to get over it.

His little rants about trans people are *exactly* the same kind of thing a racist does. They can't/won't change, so they try to convince everyone that they are RIGHT. But they're not. Dave just tries to mask it as "jokes" and "observations". It's crap, and deep down he knows it, I thin.

With Dave, it gets even more complicated since he's essentially considered the Golden Child of black comedy. His ego is HUGE. Admitting to himself that he is a bigot has got to be tough.

How blatantly obvious that you ignore his work and friendships with the 'trans' community. I guess all the trans people supporting Chapelle are fakes or self-hating?

I like a lot of what Dave has to say.  It's not really comedy, it's just the world as he sees it and the world as he thinks it ought to be.  I like to kick back, play some Civilization, and put Dave on in the background.  He'll be there on the stage, telling it like it is, as I sit there and nod my head along with him.

Then he goes off the damn rails, and I feel uncomfortable as I launch my nuclear attack on Ghandi.

The fact that he has trans friends doesn't mean he isn't prejudiced against them. Especially since he essentially said they were some of the "good ones".

Plus...Dave is rich and famous. I imagine some people would put up with some crap from him just for the "cachet" factor of being his friend.

just because you are offended doesn't mean you are right and it really doesn't mean that you get to dictate what someone says on stage.

to the best of my knowledge no one has been forced to watch the special against their will.  if i joke unhinges your day so much that you just can't go on then i suggest you seek therapy because you are taking way to much way to seriously.

You're kidding right?

People don't have to watch Dave's special, but that doesn't mean employees of a company embracing it can't complain or lack the right to.

Anyone can complain about the behaviors of a corporation and push for cancellation as they see fit. Corporations and their star players are welcome to brush off those complaints or address them as they like. Actions have consequences. Offending people has consequences one may not want sometimes

if you want to spend your day butthurt about what someone said in a comedy show you go ahead. at the end of all your screaming into the void he'll still be Dave Chappelle and you'll just be a few days older and just as butthurt.  Chappelle has plenty of money, you aren't getting that.  he'll always be able to get stage time, you aren't getting that either and when he feels like it he'll release a new special and someone will pay him for it and it'll get broadcast.  but sure go nuts, it sounds like you have time to kill.

2021-10-22 4:56:17 PM
Is there a specific part of his special that people have a problem with, a part that could be found online, or is it his whole special? I found the last fifteen minutes where he talked about Daphne Dorman (I'd post it but it's gone now) and for that part I didn't find it intolerant. I know it's an outlandish stance, but I'd like to see what is claimed to be offensive first-hand so I can decide on my own rather than being told what to think.

There may be an unwanted consequence to trans employees walking out from Netflix. They might find there's a slow purge of pain-in-the-ass trans employees from that company with their replacements being non-pains-in-the-ass non-trans or those who won't disrupt their company's business. I am not saying it's right, just that it's management's job is to keep things working so if a little bit of grease isn't enough for the squeaky wheel, the squeaky wheel risks being replaced.

Drearyx: We just abandoned an entire country of brown people.

That is wrong. People, don't abandon your brown people, take them to the nearest shelter, preferably a no-kill shelter, in the hope they'll find their forever home.

For a long time, when anyone voiced any criticism of Israel, the critic was labeled as anti-Semitic in order to shut down the critic and not address the criticism. I see the same going on with trans issues, that any time anyone says anything on that subject that does not one-hundred percent align with the militant trans worldview, that person gets labeled transphobic or a bigot. That tactic may win the immediate battle, but it won't win the war because no one's mind gets changed by that.

Well, it does mean that we can refuse to pay for their stage as an audience, or the owner of the stage can't tell them to STFU.
Try it with Drew and this stage.... go on... find out.

Used to work for a company where the salesmen were, by and large, irresponsible assholes.  I needed paperwork that they were responsible for to do my job in a timely manner.  Often, it would be weeks late.  I mentioned that, and the response from above was, "Well, they're the ones bringing money in..."
