If it makes people of color suffer, Mississippi politicians will support it.

Mississippi needs to be permanently evacuated and abandoned. Nuke it from orbit.

Throw in Arkansas and Alabama to round off the unholy trinity of backwater states.

And yet people still vote for Republicans.  Maybe someone should tell Tucker Carlson and Ben Shapiro about how awfully run this state is.  Are they too overly regulated?   Too taxed?   Not enough Jesus?

Nice headline, Subby.

NPR, on the other hand, needs to do better.

This is a tale of two Jackson, Mississippi's.

An apostrophe? Really??

Alabama is literally nothing more than East Mississippi. The Mississippi Territory was sliced down the middle to create two States. Like the two Dakotas, the only reason it's a separate state is that the conservatives figured, "Why just get two new Senators when we can have four?"

Also: Kentucky and Tennessee (split from Virginia and North Carolina, respectively), the aforementioned Mississippi Territory (split from Georgia to make two additional states), several states from Texas, Arkansas split from Louisiana in the Louisiana Purchase, several midwestern states in addition to the two Dakotas, etc.

Remember that whenever you hear a Senator from any of those states (or any of several others) mouth off about D.C. or P.R. Statehood being just a "Democrat power grab," that we're only doing it because we want more Senators. About ⅖ of the Senate exists because conservatives wanted more Senators.

Saw this one on Twitter today. Their state house members are all kinds of crazy.

Pagan style taking of auspices is somehow fine? But don't you dare be gay.

I think it means that the squirrel was too slow and the bird was hungry.

Then again, I'm not an unmedicated mental patient, so what the hell do I know?

You have to literally call out possession of Jackson since otherwise they would deny owning it.

Is it like Attorneys General? Would it be Jacksons, Mississippi?

It's an opinion of long standing here in Louisiana that the principal function of Mississippi and Alabama is to prevent Louisiana from being at the absolute bottom of every national list.

When I was 18 I lived a block away from the Milsaps campus in the center of Jackson MS some 50 years ago.  I remember going to the State House and looking at the washrooms and water fountains.  There was paint discolorations on the wall above the former saying White and Colored. I am grateful for that experience. There is history there and deep deep pools of human experience.

Jackson Missisippi was "discovered" and first settled by an  Arcadian Frenchman and Jackson eventually burned to the ground during the Civil War.  It rebuilt. I have watched the neighborhood with Google maps over the years.

I lived there too. Graduated High School.

The folks that were born in Jackson did not choose to but they do so with a grace that I envy.  My neighbourhood based on pictures on Google Maps is doing a lot better now than ever.  I can smell the honeysuckle and hear the cicadas from a hammock at night when I look at the pictures and I relax for a change about the South.
