I'm allergic to them. Haven't eaten one in decades (although I sometimes forget to check the ingredients list on other products which use them as filler).

when mother nature cooperates and doesnt throw us a 15 degree night when the trees are in bloom, we get a lot of apples in fall. this year that one night cold snap took out all my heirloom tomatoes (yes they were covered) and *all* of the apples. even the ranches down at lower altitude had no apple season this year. thats two years in a row. next crop will be a big one if we dont get frozen out again...

I grow a few that I can. Neighbors donate some. We eat them and bake with them.

Nature has plowed some of my crops under before as well... little you can do.
Better luck next year.

My favourite orchard took a pretty bad hit in a storm last year, and lost a fair amount of trees which makes me sad. I tried to pick up a gallon of cider last week to find it was out :/ Always wanted to plant an apple tree, but don't have the patience for letting it grow to producible fruit. That's all I have to say about that.

I like my apples in the form of booze.  Here's my apple wine from fresh local cider a few weeks in.

Apples are also great baked.  One of my college date meals was to core out an apple from the top almost to but not through the bottom.  In a separate bowl crush some graham cracker and mix with butter, apple pie seasonings (clove, allspice, common etc), brown sugar and stuff it in the apple hole.  Top with a marshmallow and bake at about 350 until the apple is soft.

I've never tried that with graham cracker crumbs or marshmallows, good idea. I have had baked apples stuffed with chopped nuts (walnuts and pecans work best), or caramels, or chocolate chips, or red hots (the cinnamon candy, not the hot dog).

Though apple slices and smoked sausage sauteed together are the camping breakfast of champions, so if you really want to stuff a smokey link into your apple hole I won't stop you. Might enhance the date, who knows.

Granny smith apples, sliced.I feel like I get more apple for my dollar when I use one of those circular coring tools.

I'll eat some other varieties of apples, but granny smiths are the only ones i purchase every time I run out.

Sausage in my applehole. I'll have to work up to that.
