So, example no. 741954362 of why Gamers Are Assholes?

That's kind of hilarious.

Also, shoot them with a "healing gun"? Chris Roberts has obviously been in America too long if he's coming up with that one.

Maybe not for the serious players who keep getting knocked out while they're in the middle of accessing their docked ships, which renders them unable to run or defend themselves for a brief period. They're probably pissed. But for the most part, players seem to be having fun drugging others and holding them hostage.

First they decried griefing, then they tolerated griefing, then they encouraged griefing, now they're celebrating griefing.

Seriously... every time I think about getting this game stuff like this comes up that shows me that no matter the price point, misanthropes will always be ahead of the game. I want something fun, not a struggle against rules I may not understand. Trolls gonna troll. Griefers gonna grief.

I played Eve for too long

The more I hear about this "game", the happier I am I stayed away from it.
What a giant pile of bovine scat.

Herr Flick's Revenge: The more I hear about this "game", the happier I am I stayed away from it.
What a giant pile of bovine scat.

It's just so... gorgeous. The ships are the best video game ships I've seen yet, and the flight model is my favorite of all time. The diegetic UI elements are very immersive, and really cool. Star Citizen is, even in this unfinished state, simply gorgeous.

There's just one teensy, tiny problem - it's not actually a game yet. It's basically a big tech demo. I'll pop in about once a year for a few days and see how it has come along, and I'm always impressed at first with how gorgeous it is - then become bored within hours because there isn't actually a game there yet.

I was an early backer, and have a couple ships in my hangar. I've given up on hoping it will come out in any sort of finished state any time soon, and am just waiting to hear when it does.

Forgot to make my point....

My point is, if it doesn't ever come out it's going to be a damn, damn shame. There's a lot of goodness in there, it has the potential to be a truly great space game - and so will be just as great a shame if it's never completed.

Reminds me why i quit Elite dangerous.  Was only playing solo and was getting really bored.  But i kept hearing stories about how players grief in the game, and there are always fanboys who like it because it adds realism to the game.  The whole community is generally toxic and hostile, and i was once banned from a discord of a squadron for mentioning that "those that gain pleasure from causing other people harm are sadists " because it was insulting. *rolls eyes*

This game is exhibit A for why the worst thing a game dev can say is "you know what this game needs? More rule systems!"

True, but on the other hand the fuel truckers (I think that's what they called themselves) were a thing on the entire opposite end of the spectrum.

Just as predicted, Star Citizen is going to devolve into the same kind of childish griefing that you see in every other online game. Only this time you're going to be griefed from being able to play in chips you possibly spend hundreds of real-world dollars for. At least in GTA all I had to do was switch to another Lobby and then turn my VPN on and off real quick and suddenly I'm not being griefed anymore.

I had big hopes but I'm glad they never got a penny from me. Should it actually be released some time before the heat death of the universe, I'll gladly read reviews and buy it during a sale.

There ya go.  It's always amazing hearing fuel rat stories of just someone going all the way out to the rims to pass some guy some fuel.

Why are there SOOOOO many threads and posts about a non-existent game?  Six months ago, I'd never even heard of this game.  Today, thanks to Fark.com, I know enough about this game to avoid it like the plague.

I like the Fuel Rats.  They basically went, "Well, we're a bunch of old hats with massively OP ships...let's strip 'em into giant flying fuel tanks with a massive jump range, give it a shiatload of refuelling limpets and fuel scoops, find a hard to reach uninhabited system to create a flag of neutral convenience, and start refuelling stranded pilots".  They saw an opportunity to go above and beyond with search and rescue and turned it into their thing.  Love them.

One of the most immutable truths about the internet is that the kind of people that like to dish it out online absolutely cannot handle being on the receiving end.

Kind of like how everyone that calls people snowflakes completely looses their shiat when they can't have things their way.

Shakes999: sully the games good name

From what? This?

A bunch of players with an excess of time, creativity and and infantile senses of humor found a way to take a good thing and turn it into a bad thing in a video game?

This is news?

I suppose the silver lining is that since everything's still in flux, the faster these assholes find exploits like this, the earlier they can be corrected.

Yup, exactly. The fact that those two posts are only 10 minutes apart makes it even better.

You just know that mouth-breather was calling for any pro athlete that kneeled during the anthem to be fired immediately, but also endlessly complains about cancel culture.

It's the schoolyard bully mentality on a consequence free platform.

But it's also why I enjoy playing Conan Exiles on PvE Conflict. If someone wants to be a bad neighbor and block a resource you can always build over and around them.

Sometimes literally, walling them in like Kong is always an option.

In Ultima Online, you couldn't attack other players without the guards immediately appearing and killing you.  But when my server was down (which was like all the time) I'd hop on another and create an alchemist who starts with enough stuff to make a few explosive potions.

I'd sell them to people as 'strength' potions and watch them explode themselves.  Once I was trying to sell one, but the guy stole it from my pack. My character "noticed" the attempt and I could have called the guards, but it was more amusing to let him have it. He says "I just stole your potion and I'm gonna drink it right in front of you!  Hahaha" I was like "no. please. don't." He says "too bad noob!" And them *boom* immediately everyone vultures over to loot his corpse.

I once encountered some guy trying to grief me by just attacking me in the city. I say "that's boring, you want to have some real fun?" So I got him to make an alchemist and we went to the bank where people safely store their loot after coming back from crawls.

We'd get on either side of a high level player who was loaded with goodies and both suicide bomb him, which was enough to kill even a high mid range player. And banks were always crowded and no one expected to die there so they had lots of stuff. And the *second* your body his the ground, it's stripped like a nice car left overnight in Compton.

Ah yes, the ancient dr. Twister philosophy of bug fixing.

Find a bug and spread the word so it gets abused so much the devs are forced to fix it.

In reality, the end result was usually getting tons of accounts banned unless the exploit was truly game breaking, in which case ton of accounts got banned and the bug got fixed or band aided.

Reminds me of a group of grandmaster carpenter extortionists in old uo.

They would run up on solo players back before you could teleport, and wall them in with bookcases that the victim couldn't move or destroy  and demand ransom to tear them down.

Part of the reason why I choose not to play in survival mode in most games.
