I started up a game of Symphony and Lego Batman the other day, but I'm really just biding my time thru the week until Update 5 drops on Satisfactory.

As for best and worst licensed games, both honors go to the Star Wars franchise.  Tie fighter is arguably one of the greatest games ever made, but there have been some absolute steamers in there as well.  Worst one I ever bought was Star Wars: Rebel Assault, which I beat in less than a day, and returned to the store for a full refund by complaining that my sound card was incompatible.

TIE Fighter is the only game I ever beat, back in the 90s. (not really a big  gamer). That was a great game. X-Wing wasn't as good.

Been playing Outer Wilds this week, mostly done, just need a few more cycles to finish it out I think.  I played through about 80% without looking at a guide, but I'm glad I did at the end because there were a number of things I don't think I'd have figured out.  Really great game

Great game, and yea I was about 80% before I had to look some stuff up. Have you played the DLC? I'm tryin to see if it's worth it.

/I will NOT get the DLC if I have to deal with those goddamn giant anglerfish again. Farking hated that level

My 3080 showed up this week (Evga FTW3).  The thing is huge and heavy, and was a bit of a struggle to fit into my case along with my new (bigger) PSU, large cpu heat sink and my ridiculous amount of hard drives.  Anyways it's up and running, and I mostly just played every game I had installed this week, and re-installed a few that my old 1060 struggled with.

I was most impressed by GTA V and Flight Simulator.  Both run really smooth with everything set to ultra.  I'll be playing more of them this weekend for sure.  One thing I noticed as the new card runs really hot.  I may need some more case fans, and I should probably recable a bit for better air flow.

I did give Riftbreaker a quick look last night.  Seems fun.  Sort of a twin stick shooter base/building/defense game.  Kind of neat so far.

Best licensed game?  Goldeneye seems to be my answer to all the questions lately....   The worst would be 'most of them'.

I have not played the DLC yet.  It's included in my version, but I'm not sure how to access it.  I haven't tried though, since i want to beat the base game first.  I understand it is much more of a horror game than the base game.  There is even a setting in the options to make the DLC less scary

It's an amazing game, if a little overwhelming at times.  Highly recommended.  I've posted a few build photos here and there in previous gaming threads.  It's also got a ton of Mod support so if you get too overwhelmed you can tweak the experience to your own preference.

I'm back playing Animal Crossing after flaking on it for a bit. The 2.0 update looks like it will be pretty good. At first I was wondering if I'd like the DLC that's also coming then I realized I like decorating my home much more than my island itself. So I'll probably get that when it hits.

I forgot that I grew 1000 pumpkins to make the Halloween stuff so I'm grinding for recipes. I even started my second profile on the island hoping to have more chances. I get a tent for decoration!

I will not be getting their new online pack until there's a lot more to get. I also have 6 months left on my current subscription.

Best licensed?  The Disney games form the early 90s. Mickey, Aladdin, Lion King.

Not sure about worst. But it's a lot.

I've finally got to where I know my head from my ass in Escape From Tarkov, it really does take the sim realism up a notch on all fronts. There is a lot of satisfying shiat going on with that one, but it is an undertaking. I haven't been playing games much. I've had little time and it seems like every time I do the cat decides to favorited! down her fluffy bum right on top of my mousepad.

I think I might get filterpwned for that sentence. Ah, well. Everyone can get a good laugh at my expense. I've played a few random games from my absurdly vast collection on itch.io of free games, paid games and from buying both of the colossal bundles they had on offer over the last year or so. Nothing in particular struck me from there, so I'll move on.

I played through The Market of Light, which is a tech demo for Unreal Engine 5 with a bit of a game in it to motivate you to move around the scene.

It looks absolutely glorious. It's also very demanding in terms of hardware, so you'll need a pretty powerful PC to run it. It's free on Steam and IMO worth it if you want something to push your computer. It ran well on my gaming laptop (i7, 32GB, RTX 2080 Super) so draw your own conclusion from there. If you're one of the lucky few who managed to get your hands on a 30x0, definitely get it as a sort of reward.

That's enough. Now for the Question of the Week. Great licensed games are in my experience few and far between. The first that comes to mind is the 1997 Blade Runner from Westwood. It looks and feels like the original film with a story of its own with randomised elements and multiple endings to give it more replay value than most point and click adventures.
Fark user imageView Full Size

The other I want to mention is Below the Root. It's a sequel to the books and it's one of my all-time favourite games. I played the game then read the books because I adored it so much. It's an aardvark and one of the best the genre has to offer. There's a lot to see and do and a great atmosphere, particularly for an 8 bit game. I'd love to see a remake with a fresh coat of paint.

The DLC adds to the story without really being connected to the rest of it. There's no real need to revisit the rest of the game. It has its own ending sequence. After completing it though you can get a slightly different ending to the main story, so don't start up a fresh game, just use your old save.

Several folks have noted the gold value held by the player during the trailer is 2023, makes it highly likely that ConcernedApe is aiming for a Fall 2023 release, as it would make sense to release a game titled "Haunted Chocolatier" in October.

I have sunk countless hours into Stardew Valley, and this looks like a similar enough formula that I plan a day 1 purchase. CA has proven that they are going to put in effort that goes above and beyond, so even if it isn't A+ out of the gate I have faith it will get there.

Playing Far Cry 6. Gorgeous game. I miss the non-stop firefights I would get into at intersections of Far Cry 5. But still having a lot of fun.

Best; Alien Isolation.
Honorable Mention: Blair Witch (2019).

ConcernedApe developments aside, my own updates, first I have successfully beaten Darkest Dungeon! I actually had an easier time inside the mansion itself than I did with some of the champion level boss fights, maybe that just means I never bring enough supplies, but it means I can pack it away just in time for the Pokemon remakes coming out next month, as well as Forza Horizon 5.

Tabletop my friends and I finally carved out time to return to DND! I'm DMing in a homebrew world, and today was the first magical loot of the game. I love giving out oddball items, so included was a grey bag of tricks, and the players were pumped. The first animal out was a weasel they named Smeasel. The other players actually asked the player who got the bag not to read out all of the options because they want to be surprised. I can't wait for the first time they curveball me by pulling out an animal and an elk is suddenly rampaging through a marketplace or trap infested dungeon.

They'll need the help, because we ended on a cliffhanger. They have been hunting a red slaad, and the session ended with their scout hearing ominous heavy breathing just up the passageway...

Only Hades this week. Need to find what the kids did with the Switch Dock power cord so I can play Metroid on the big TV. Did hit credits again in Hades and have made good progress on the post-game.

D&D was a bit short this week. My boys had a bowling party for the end of football season so we had to duck out early. So we covered the in-between stuff for the current module from one "dungeon" to the next.

Best Licensed Games: The Arkham series springs to mind. The Mummy Demastered is supposed to be really good. And all of the Lego games tend to be wholesome fun.

Worst Licensed Games: ET, TMNT (NES), Avatar TLA (where you could get all the achievements for the game by mashing one button at the start), and not sure if it counts but Street Fighter: The Movie: The Game.

Bought another NDS, a DSI XL in this case for 80 bucks, to have as a fourth backup to play all the Pokemon games that were made for the DS. I'm still super addicted after all this time, and the Gba+DS had the best generations. Get it. Play it for about 20 minutes, then close it down and install the SMART mod.

Then go back in and take over the entire damned world. Satisfactory is an amazing game, but it's clunky to build all the crazy stuff you see you YouTube.  SMART mod makes it much more accessible, just being able to lay out a few hundred floor tiles at a time is enough reason to install it, but the work it does with production lines will make you very happy.

Not a lot of gaming this week. I picked up Metroid Dread over the weekend, but haven't gotten too far into it.

The other small amount of gaming I've had this week has been in New World. I did have a day of boring meetings that I could listen to while mindlessly grinding, so I pushed through a couple levels. Still don't know how I feel about the game overall, but it's enough for me to unplug and kill time with.

As far as licensed games, I'd like to give honorable mention here to Enter the Matrix. The gameplay was decent, even if it wouldn't hold up today, but the main thing was the writing. Interweaving the game storyline with the movie in seamless ways made for an amazing experience that a lot of folks never got to experience.

I have been playing Ostriv and New World, though I'm losing steam on the latter. Finally got back into my Call of Duty: Warzone account and I have been enjoying the new modes quite a bit.

Best licensed game: Goldeneye
Worst licensed game: Virtually any NES title based on a movie.

I really enjoy the concept of New World, but the quests are pretty boring (and far away), even the instances aren't that hard or interesting. I love the crafting elements, but it is too easy to run out of space, and the fact that all your storage in one city is only linked if your faction controls both cities is annoying as hell. The higher levels of crafting / harvesting also take entirely too long to level.

Best part though is that it doesn't require a monthly subscription, so I can jump in and out however much I want. As they add content I can just jumping back in.

I am one of those dirty pirates who is playing Metroid Dread on yuzu and so far I love the game as it has everything I love about Metroid and is a good challenge, especially the bosses. I just beat the second Chozo machine soldier after many times getting my ass kicked.

/I'd buy the game if I didn't have to shell out $300 bucks for a Switch to play it on.

Best Licensed game has to be Fate of Atlantis. I sunk far too many months and years of my childhood into that game.

I actually went to Crete a few years back and was almost in tears when I found the real life bull head statue.
