You know, if you pay attention to Harrison Ford's face during the entire Return of the Jedi, his eyes are scrolling back-and-forth, he is never focusing on any one thing, person he's talking to, anything. He genuinely looks like he is confused and doesn't know where he is!

Watch it again and just stare at his eyes in every scene (including that picture you posted!)

Harrison's performance is just a hair's breadth above disdain. I mean dude was slumming it, fortunately it lined-up with Han Solo's persona so he didn't ruin the film.

Her memorial service was so Carrie Fisher, including the giant fake Prozac pill she made sure was included in the service. And Mark Hamill probably cracked up as soon as he heard about it being included, as that was exactly the sort of thing he probably expected her to insist on but didn't expect to be actually followed through with.

You really believe most of the groups lining up to give rehab and mental therapy to movie stars and musicians are actually any good and aren't just offering highly expensive placebos? About the best anyone can say for those useless 30 day celebrity clinics is at least they aren't Scientology.

Real therapy and a path to sobriety requires a serious investment of time, personal effort, support from your friends and family, distance from enablers who want you to remain the same old party person they've always known, and in extreme cases, at least one other person who'll help make the tough decisions about what kind of life choices need to be made from now on. And even then it's unlikely you'll be "cured", you'll just discover ways to manage your problems that don't involve excessive substance abuse.

Craig Ferguson is the rare example of a celebrity success story when it comes to rejecting addiction, but as he'll freely tell anyone, he works to reject it every single day. The urge is always with him. Carrie had the double whammy of mental distresses that she kept in check with drug and alcohol abuse, so from her perspective, kicking her habits would have led to greater misery rather than an improved life. And the professionals she was seeing weren't pushing her to quit all the drugs, just to take different ones like Prosac.

Like I said, our treatment of mental illness needs work. Not just to clear out the frauds and quacks, but to improve the nature of the entire science. We may be decades away from being able to truly help some people, because in many cases, we still don't have good answers and we're still fumbling around in the dark. And in the meantime, we'll mock Fisher for having a drug problem while lionizing Keith Richards for miraculously not succumbing to his yet.

Some Farkers can be very similar to a certain orange loudmouth in that respect. They like "winners" who enjoy their drugs, not "losers" who get destroyed by them.

That is a whole screed in which you did nothing to address the point where you said that the people specializing in celebrity rehab are quacks, as if she had no choice in the matter of where she would spend het money.

Fine. Let's throw in the part where many celebrities are hustled off to worthless quickie clinics to slap a bandaid on their problems just to satisfy the press and insurance companies, because their handlers don't want them taking the time to pursue real treatment. And they sure as hell don't want them avoiding parties, losing all those lucrative connection and PR moments, or even worse, considering retirement for the sake of their well being.

And it's much worse in the case of touring musicians. Sure, we all watched Amy Winehouse slowly die of meth before our very eyes, but a real cleanup program could have cut into her concert schedule. Ain't nobody agreeing to that.

I think what you want to hear is her death was entirely her own fault and there were no contributing circumstances, nor any history of celeb rehab clinics with little to no success rate, but agents still love to recommend them because they don't take much time away from anyone's cash-making productivity. You and I are not going to reach a compromise on that score.

No, what I want to hear is you admitting that "But her agent!" or "but celebrity rehab clinics!" are not counters to "she has enough money to arrange her own mental health care". Just because she is a celebrity doesn't mean she has to use a celebrity rehab clinic. Just because she has an agent, doesn't mean she can't make her own choices.

A self-medicating addict is unlikely to seek treatment that deprives them of their addictions, and money is not the magic answer for someone in a downward spiral who's surrounded by enablers cheering on their problems, because the money isn't going to step in and stage an intervention. On the contrary, it just attracts fellow addicts to come around and encourage you to buy more drugs.
