The 10k doesn't impact the mega rich, but it does hurt upper middle class people. That's why the Republicans put it in; the people most likely to be screwed by it are the latte-sipping, liberal elite who live in blue states.

Should be capped at 30 or 40k if you want to soak the rich and not screw over people who are "hundred thousandaires".

sinner4ever: There is an easy fix.
Repeal all of the Trump tax cuts and Trump tax increases on the working class Biden will not even talk about.

That's not an easy fix though, it's an impossible one.  The owner class will not allow it to happen.

This SALT thing is hilarious... tax the rich... except of course for the rich that live in high tax states. 🙄

I think it's worth accepting that America is on its steep decline due to an accumulation of wealth that is "too big to fail."

The bright side? They still let us have bourbon.

For now.

Booze, bullets and bacon, three things that everyone should be stockpiling.

Repeal back to Clinton.  Put 10 year limits on trust funds which must be drawn down to $0, or the remainder is taxed at 90%.  Also eliminate capital gains and make all income subject to the tax brackets, marginal 70% at $1 million/year.
Not going to happen.

BMFPitt: The SALT deduction, like the mortgage interest deduction, is completely indefensible.

It doesn't look great when viewed as a tax break, but there is logic to letting the states get first crack at taxing the rich, especially if we bring back very high federal tax rates.  Without SALT, a 90% federal rate could lead to total tax rates over 100%.

With the tax rates we currently have, I wouldn't say that it's needed, but it does give states more room to raise taxes on high earners, and it's arguably fairer to tax people on the income they actually see after state income tax, if we're trying to treat people with similar economic situations the same.
