Lying to Congress is a crime.   So is perjury.  And I firmly believe the 1/6 Committee either already has or soon will obtain his cell phone records

He feels empowered to lie because he doesn't believe there will be any consequences. I wish I could say that he is wrong there.

Hillary Clinton answered questions about Benghazi for 11 hours.  She had the advantage of not having anything to hide nor having done nothing wrong.

In contrast, Jordan would collapse into a pile of goo after 2 questions, ten minutes in.

Jordan said he couldn't remember how many times he'd spoken with Trump.

McGovern pressed again, asking him to clarify if it was before, during or after the assault on the Capitol.

"I talked to the president after the attack," Jordan said. He said he did not speak to him before or during, contradicting what he had told Politico.

"Jordan said he believed he had spoken to Trump after the riot but wasn't sure, and couldn't recall if they had spoken in the morning. "I'd have to go back," he said."

"I'll have to check my notes" doesn't work as a deflection the eighth time you're asked the question, Jim. You've had plenty of time to "go back" and get this answer.

Because nothing is happening. When something happens, when people start facing real accountability, then and only then should we be optimistic that something might actually happen.

What possible benefit would the DoJ have in ignoring a criminal referral for contempt of Congress?  If you are going to make a prediction that nothing will happen, you at least have to have some logical basis or insight.

Example: "DoJ will ignore the criminal referral on Steven Bannon because..."

If you don't have the "..." or if your "..." is referring to the DoJ under Trump, you really aren't supporting your point.  I am not saying you are necessarily wrong - I just don't see the basis of your argument.

No warrant needed.  Your phone records are held by your phone company and under the  "3rd party records doctrine"  you therefore have no privacy interests in them and Congress or LE can get them just bu asking pretty please

The criminal referral in this case will go specifically to US Attorney Channing Phillips. Given his track record, I have little to no doubt he will act on it. I would be more worried if it were going to Merrick Garland. While Garland seems to be a good man willing to prosecute criminals, he has no will to prosecute politicians

I definitely would never expect any DoJ to comment on a hypothetical referral form Congress.  That's a given and not to be rude but a meaningless point.

In terms of the insurrection - something did happen.  So, not an example of nothing happening - just an example of not enough happening as far as you are concerned.  Although, I don't disagree - but what happened/will happen does go somewhat beyond the political/DoJ scope.

I was thinking of that sort of thing recently, how the accuser will say, "Oh, you've got an answer for everything, don't you?" As if being able to answer questions coherently is in itself evidence of a pre-planned nefarious scheme.  Today Republicans deem "gotcha"  or "politically-motivated" questions as evidence of bad faith concerns when asked about their public record of malfeasance.
