I make sure to stir widdershins when I'm creating a potion or summoning demons.

But first, let me give you a 15-paragraph story about my grandmother the witch, and how much necromancy means to my family.

Amateurs. The most effective stirring method is up and down.

red5ish: You're holding your spoon wrong.
Probably.
This is actually a thing.

The round end should be on the bottom.

Clockwise/counter-clockwise, rinse, lather, repeat. You get the best of both worlds.

/BTW, when did Claire start using edibles?

In numeral 8 patterns.

Because stirring FEELS like infinity.

Of course!
I was hoping for Claire when I clicked, because of the lack of inane in my week.
I got Claire...

Moving one's hand back and forth is easier than moving it in circles, so you can mix harder for longer, but it also produces more shear force:

Perhaps if you didn't look like a gastropod that has only recently been exposed to sunlight... stirring, much less  whisking or beating is not a chore.
Maybe I'm old fashion and have muscles, but the only time I have complained about any of the above was whisking to try to make butter (this takes a long time). I have Shrek hands, and holding a pencil sized handle is crampville. *shrug*

That's why you gotta switch it up with 12 Oz curls. Gotta use different muscles while stirring!

That's what the free hand is for...

General FYI, a kitchenaid makes butter painlessly, just use the paddle, not the whisk, unless you like trying to get 1/4lb of the stuff out of the center of the whisk.
