They start out talking about stirring (and include a picture of someone stirring), then quote a source that's talking about whisking, which is not the same thing.  So yeah, I guess if you're stirring by whisking you may be doing it wrong.

Moving one's hand back and forth is easier than moving it in circles, so you can mix harder for longer, but it also produces more shear force:

Perhaps if you didn't look like a gastropod that has only recently been exposed to sunlight... stirring, much less  whisking or beating is not a chore.
Maybe I'm old fashion and have muscles, but the only time I have complained about any of the above was whisking to try to make butter (this takes a long time). I have Shrek hands, and holding a pencil sized handle is crampville. *shrug*

I've always wanted to try using a magnetic lab stirrer w/hotplate for cooking...

The article is about whisking.  I saw Jack do it on Cooks Illustrated.

He didn't test the spin it in the palms of your hands method.  Jack and Claire are both wrong.
