"We refuse to become the vaccination police for any government," In-N-Out Chief Legal & Business Officer Arnie Wensinger said in a statement to KRON4. "We fiercely disagree with any government dictate that forces a private company to discriminate against customers who choose to patronize their business."

And yet they'll ask for ID when it comes to alcohol or tobacco...

Editors note:
In-N-Out serves neither cigarettes, nor alcoholic drinks. They're still useless Tuesdays though.

It still annoys me that Corvallis had one when I went to school there... And that was 15 years ago

Not so many In N Out apologists out there now as much as there were earlier this week, is there?

In N Out: The Hobby Lobby of fast food joints.

I'd rather go somewhere that enforces a mandate than wonder if the plague rat next to me is headed to the hospital after their burger.

Only places that have one here are large venues. Concerts, sports, theater.

I wonder what other health codes for food service they feel are too restrictive. Refrigeration? Hand washing?

I still eat there.

Don't mind the bible references on the bottom of the cup.  They pay excellent wages and care well for their crew.  And sell a good burger at a good price.

The vax thing is stupid, yeah... but making the argument that they shouldn't have to enforce the vax ID is a cromulent one, even if I don't agree with it.  Bars in CA aren't required to enforce anti-smoking bans, beyond notifying you that it's against state law.

/the only In-n-Out in my town is drive thru and patio dining only, anyway

These dummies are farking up hard. There's a pandemic.

If a company won't abide by a common sense regulation that is in place for the protection of the general public, that's concerning.

Thank goodness there's no regulations around the proper handling, storage and preparation of food.

When did In-N-Out become burgers for crazy people?  Between them and Chik-Fil-A, where can I buy fast food, without an implied political agenda, where all I want is to over-eat and die?

You can always go to Sonic and breathe in the fumes from the pickups and SUVs who can't turn off their motors for 5-10 minutes while they order and wait for their food.  I would park next to an EV except I've never seen one there.

I don't think the holocaust comparisons are all that ridiculous, Subs.  Fast food likely kills a lot of people.

I don't believe that's the argument being made.

The chief legal officer for In-n-out:

"We fiercely disagree with any government dictate that forces a private company to discriminate against customers who choose to patronize their business," he wrote. "This is clear governmental overreach and is intrusive, improper, and offensive."

He
seems to take issue with the regulation itself, less the enforcement.

Yet, you will likely be asked to leave the restaurant if you smoke in the indoor dining area.

The chain seems to be inviting people to show up with no proof of vaccination.

TFA I read yesterday said the SF location was shut down for not enforcing the proof of vaccination requirement.  They were observed several times failing to do so, and warned.

Wearing clothes. Cooking to Central Committee Commie temperatures; raw is FINE!!! Restrictive "no shiatting on the floor" laws. "Expiration dates" on food. Health and cleanliness certificates.

As a retail manager at a global grocery chain in a liberal state I will say this: I hate getting yelled at by customers either about wearing or not wearing masks or being or not being vaxxed, and it isn't my "job" to enforce laws----however, it's my responsibility as a merchant to help maintain civilization. We card people to make sure protected items go to the safest place, and we deny alcohol sales to drunk people in the name of public safety. Is this annoying? fark yeah. Did customers never yell at me before the pandemic? Please. Do you even work in retail if you aren't getting yelled at by a Karen? Do your farking duty as a member of a modern, global society and follow your local laws.

If anyone complains about smoking, they are. And too many complaints gets them shut down, just like this. The thing is, most people at a bar won't complain if one or two people smoke a cig or two...but they sure would if it was a restaurant.

It's pretty simple: this is now the law. You don't have to like it, but you do have to obey it. And if you dont, there will be consequences.  And the more you whine, the worse you look.

Some laws are patently unfair and wrong, but a health code isn't one of them.

I could see a business saying "you know what, we're not gonna put a 16-year-old kid on the front line of people's irrational emotions and unpredictable behavior by asking for a proof of vaccination." I would completely understand a company taking THAT approach to the issue and trying to find some workaround to it. Do we hire a private security company where a guy sits at the front of the restaurant and checks? Do we move our business model to a to-go only model until this is over?

But their statement of their reasons is just...bad. We refuse to become the vaccination police? Really, guy?

This is very sad for me.  Even though I've become kind of an anti-theist over the years, I'm In n Out's biggest hype man.  They serve good food and treat their workers very well.  That used to be enough.  But now with covid, battle lines have been drawn, and INO seems to have fallen on the derp side.  Disappointed.

1) people should get vaccinated
2) should employers be responsible for checking?

Is this a work mandate? That you can't work if not vaccinated? If yes, then I get it.
But....No alternatives?

During the direst parts of lockdown and also during these last weeks since Mothman, La Colombiana and Indy The Great & Terrible decamped to Malibu, yours truly has at long last been learning to cook things beyond the odd steak.

It's been humorous enough - smoke, fire and disastrously experimental dishes - that my producer has essentially demanded I make a Clarkson's Farm-style show detailing these games but my public antics are embarrassing enough as it is. (Which is not to say that if someone named Jeff comes across with the cash I wouldn't. But does the world really need or want another Mr. Clueless Goes To The Kitchen? I think not.)

However, I digress. The real trick pour moi has been the copycat recipes. What a revelation! Topsecretrecipe.farkup or whatever is a good place to start, if you're interested. I can make Chik-Fil-A. I can make McFilet. I can farking make Buca eggplant parm. (This last is maybe less recommended for newbs holy fark that took a long time.) I can even make French fries hahahaha who knew? Not me, that's who.

All this shiat is easy af, is what I'm saying here. I may never eat proper 'fast food' again.

I find your last point a little hard to believe.  So a bar in CA would not get fined by the health inspector if they saw people smoking in the bar when they visited as long as they had a No Smoking sign posted?
