It's been over a decade since I played that, but I remember playing my Paladin with the maxed out 'Thorns' aura.

Laziest way to play Diablo 2 IMO.

I've ignored the new version so far, but I rather like the Necromancer and Javelin Amazons the best.

The barbarian.. yeah, I got together with 2 online friends for a Hardcore game, deaths are permanent.  My barbarian died very shortly into Act III.. I was worried about leaving town with zero resistances.

I found that it was even easier once you got a mana absorbing hammer. Just spam zeal (?) and win. Think I killed Duriel on nightmare in about 10 seconds that way.

There's something to be said for a lazy way to play.  To me, there's nothing like a good Summonmancer.  Necromancers hold a special place in my heart in games since they grant the opportunity to play properly evil and corruptive (or at least pursuing forbidden knowledge), and while I was never all that into D2, it's my favorite necromancer this side of HoMM3.  It's so rare that summon classes in games offer you a proper horde to do your dirty work for you.  If only you could be a properly corruptive conquering force instead of an antihero in a world that's already gone to hell (literally and figuratively), it'd be perfect.

Wow. Haven't played Resurrected, played D2 the first time around. Expected Paladin to be last. It's not only first, but Hammerdin?

Hammerdin was the first character I beat the game with and maxed levels. Like I said, I expected Paladin to be last.

My old Druid was a werewolf build. Literally an absolute beast. Taking down players a good 10 levels higher than me with ease. Jack of all trades, my ass. I was a melee powerhouse.

Ran into some trouble with the physically resistant enemies who zapped you when you hit them on higher difficulties.

The one time I played Diablo 2 I picked Necromancer. I had fun right up until the final act when the monsters in the first room completely wiped all my summons and killed me in 2 hits. After researching why on the net, It was then I realized that the great Diablo 2 had very specific ways of leveling up certain characters or you'd get crushed eventually.

With such great game design, I can understand why people wanted to go back to it so badly years later. I too, have fond memories of games with slip-shod design.

/my principles over nostalgia.

At least this wasn't an article about all the gamergater incels wailing about their waifu not looking like Barbie and not fighting monsters in a bikini.
The 8chan crowd are literally shiatting themselves over the alleged "woke" change to the game.
I think my favorites are the ones yelling that a "politically correct" decision was made to make the Paladin black.

I always like magic. I loved the sorceress class, but I was pissed they lost the spellbook mechanic from Diablo.

Everyone should be able to learn the same spells with int

I am absolutely certain whoever wrote this never played past normal difficulty. I mean... the elemental caster druid? A "havoc of nature?"

And yet class skill balance was strictly off-limits for the devs, because they wanted to keep the experience "authentic."

The author is class Lives in Mom's Basement +4 Mountain Dew bottles.

Yes, they make the same noise as health potions.

Eh, I thought the Sorc appeared East Asian and the Paladin was black in the original Diablo 2.

/beat the game with the necromancer, spear/javelin amazon, barbarian, and expansion classes

Thanks, I didn't know there was another one.  It looks like I won't even need to use mods to play in turn-based mode, which is extra nice.
