I've been seeing ads for it for a few months now and I live two states away. They may be national ads.

Went to a family reunion at Dollywood this summer.  If Jesus was going to visit someplace in the Appalachians, I would imagine him going to Dollywood before he ever stepped foot on Ken Ham's creationist museum.  Dolly after all, is a much better Christian.

Ken Ham gets received over $18 million in tax breaks, and basically pays no taxes since his Maude Flander's PraiseLand wannabe, is a "religious institution"

The man himself has a personal net worth of $54 MILLION, yet is still sucking the teat of hard-working taxpayers

It's the Noah's Private Club they added in the stern.  For just 20 shekels, you can see what delighted Noah during the voyage.  Very risque but true to the Bible.  As you feast on roast dinosaur, Noah's 'special helper' dances about the God Pole.  She's usually nekkid by the third tambourine solo but sometimes there's a blanket dance for the closer.  Kids aren't allowed in unless they have a valid Kentucky Drinkin' License

My aunt is very religious and therefore her husband (my dad's brother) and kids are very religious.  They came down to Florida to visit my parents and they made a big deal about visiting the Ark Encounter.  My mom asked how it was and my aunt said "breathtaking!"

We had a good laugh about that.  I can't imagine that crude dioramas about a fairy tale could ever be considered breathtaking.  Disney creates incredible dioramas about fairy tales, but I wouldn't go so far as to call them breathtaking.  Some guy told me that the new Star Wars ride was the best ride he'd ever been on, but he didn't call it breathtaking.

Wow.  I backed the wrong God.  You know, the one that said 'help thy neighbor' and 'do onto others as you would have them do unto you.'  Should have signed up with the "You only get what you take" god.

no way i'd spend any money or time of that nonsense.

I know Patheos has a hate-boner for Ark Encounters, and, honestly who can blame them?  But sadly, these numbers seem to suggest that about 2,000 rubes a day are visiting this place and paying to get in.  Not sue what his operating costs are, but that sadly suggests a decent cashflow foinr an attraction  the middle of nowhere

A few years back (pre-COVID), I was on a road trip with the kids and thought about stopping by there, as it wasn't too far out of the way. My daughter is the type who would enjoy this for all the reasons the religious nuts would hate, as there's a lot to laugh about. In fact, I'd wager we'd get thrown out if anyone overheard the commentary (I've heard they are particularly sensitive snowflakes regarding anyone who tries to have a logical/historical discussion there).

Then I saw the ticket prices - it would have cost me over $100 for the cheapest passes (I did get a chuckle out of the idea that they sell annual passes - people go there more than once?). I was thinking it'd be 20 bucks for all of us together, worth tossing away for the cheap laugh, but $100+?  Out of their freakin' minds (which explains why this exists in the first place).

I have an absolutely fantastic idea, but I can't bring myself to do it.  It just feels wrong but it could be a great earner.  It's really disappointing.  Maybe I should sell the idea to someone and take a percentage?  I think I could live with that.

While I don't consider her that bright, she said it was "breathtaking" because she wanted it to be.  She wanted to justify to herself the hours she spent on Facebook defending the construction of this thing and the effort she made to see it.  It was going to be breathtaking because it had to be.  It would be defeating if it wasn't.

When she housed and employed all those folks who lost things in the Gatlinburg Fires a few years back to the tune of 12 million, plus a mil for COVID research, and her library initiative for utes, she has won my undying respect. If she was Catholic or British, she ought to be Beatified or made a Dame.

Nicholas D. Wolfwood: Every idiot there who gets Covid is a net gain for humanity.

If only.  As anti-vaxers love to point out though, the great majority of people who get Covid do recover.  Of course in the meantime, they are making other people sick, taking up hospital beds and other scarce medical resources, and worst of all, they are giving the virus more and more opportunities to mutate into a form that our vaccines cannot counter.

To defeat the virus requires everyone to do their part but this notion runs counter to the right wing narrative that every man is an island who is completely in control of his own destiny.  The right is constantly looking for some excuse, any excuse, to hold up this belief in the face of a global pandemic that just won't go away no matter how many vaccine mandates they overturn.  Ted Cruz confidently predicted during the last election that if Biden won, that would be the very last we'd ever hear about Covid.  Their denial is so absolute no matter how much evidence to the contrary is shoved in their faces every day.

Saddest of all is just how little is being asked of us.  This isn't wartime where people are being asked to ration gasoline or food or worse, storm the beaches of Normandy.  No, all we need you to do is get the jab and wear a mask.  That's it.  Hell hath no fury like the wrath of the privileged being mildly inconvenienced.

Yep. Where else were they going to go? Sane locations & attractions require vaccination, or masks, or a functional cerebrum, so of course the nutjobs flocked to a place that didn't require any of that.

They have to go somewhere since the Holy Land Experience in Orlando closed.

From Wikipedia:
In February 2020, after a sharp decline in revenue for several years, the park announced that it would be laying off 118 employees, representing most of its staff, and would be ending all theatrical productions, restaurants and retail shops. On August 2, 2021 the property was sold to AdventHealth who plan to redevelop the land for a new health care center.
