I really did try to watch Wonder Woman 1984, but after about 15 minutes I could see it was just a train wreck. I was really hoping for better things in the next one, but if it has the same director, I'm not hopeful. I mean, WTF Disney?
And no, Joss Whedon can suck it. Love his work, but I won't support abusive mofos. But there must be better choices.

I hope she doesn't have sex with anyone not in control of their own body* in this one.
*It's not rape when a woman does it, allegedly.

Hopefully it's better than the last one.

Wiig is one of the actually good parts of the movie, although Cheetah is not.

Out of the whole DCU crew I hold a lot of goodwill towards Momoa and Gadot. I find them really likeable and I'm willing to find something to like in whatever they're in.
That said, WW 1984 was just, a f*cking mess of a movie, I mean wow. It was insulting to the audience and the actors.
Also, why would you cast Kristen Wiig in something like this?

I like her, in comedic roles. She didn't work for me in WW 1984.

It wasn't her fault, it was just a shame that they went with the standard "Stuttering nerd with glasses is actually beautiful (and evil) when they takeoff the glasses" trope

What exactly worked for you in WW 1984?

2021-10-20 7:31:41 AM
The first movie had one big mistake that I can overlook because all superhero movies seem to make it - the stupid big boss battle at the end.  WW would have been so much better without that fight, with Diana realizing people were good and bad all on their own without Ares behind everything.  And it would have left a an evil Greek God available for future use.

The second movie had an interesting idea with a mountain of bad decisions piled on top of it combined with poor execution.  I didn't hate it, but I didn't enjoy it either, and it's not like it's supposed to be deep and meaningful - it's popcorn entertainment that fails to entertain.  But hey, we get Diana raping some guy and risking his life because she misses Steve.  And we get an awful Cirque du Soleil fight.  And inconsistent rules with the magic threat they introduce.

The first movie left me with enough good will to try the third.

2021-10-20 7:41:58 AM
The first 15 minutes or so with young Diana were the only watchable ones in ww84.

2021-10-20 7:44:31 AM
I just watched WW84 a few days ago, and it was one of the few movies I've been happy to see end so that I wouldn't have to watch any more.

Okay, I'll play:
*Gal Gadot worked for me, even though she was probably in a shiat flick she was every bit Wonder Woman/Diana
*Chris Pine, dude's a f*cking pro who rises above the material, every time (see: JJ Star Trek)
*It wasn't standard DC/WB grimdark grey.

Even without that part the movie was a mess. I still don't understand the ending like what happened to either villain and the wish machine thing?

The origin films are always better.  (we start with "real life" characters and then end up comic book heroes)

The sequels always suck. (its just comic books by then)

DC is owned by Warner Brothers.

After Whedon's attempt to fix Justice League, Warner wouldn't hire him to empty Dot Warner's litter box.

Agreed on Chris, but Gal is a terrible actor. She's more wooden than Groot. Every time I see her I just hear the completely flat "Give me the stone". She was carried throughout that first movie by better actors supporting her.

I watched about half of the first one. It sucked. I don't get the love for it. And then everyone said the 2nd sucked, so I skipped it.

DC just doesn't get it. They never have, even in the comics. DC's style is so farking *corny*, I just can't take it.

Beautiful woman, bit of a privileged idiot, though not enough for me to dislike her.

And her WW's from an age where the fight choreography and the writing in general were pretty bad.  I like the memory of her show more than actually watching it.

the first one wasn't great and they weren't rushing to get it out like they did with the sequel.  i hope 3 is good but i wouldn't hold out much hope; same team and still DCU.

Staying in the comic book movie realm, I guess by that logic "Thor 1" was better than "Ragnarok"?

I don't think it was Wiigs fault since her character was written so poorly. Her character was the top in her nerd field so therefore the other top nerds working at the Smithsonian would shun her? Some office politics aside, she would have had 5 new best friends the first day of work.

I would say the first WW movie works because it mainly asks Ms. Gadot to play the sparkly eyed naive fish out of water. She does this well, she can make the needed facial expression, and it is all reinforced by her raw beauty. The second WW didn't have any of that except the raw beauty.

The first Wonder Woman Who was great. For the second one, they decided to let Patty Jenkins do whatever she wanted. It was a mess. I assume the third one will be much the same.

That Lifetime drama she did years ago with Will Ferrell proved she could convincingly do more than comedy.  However, I didn't think she could do an action film such as WW84 (Ghostbusters not withstanding), but she pulled it off.

Speaking of the body takeover/implied rape/Gal's imagination, when she farks fake Trevor, does she imagine Trevor's dick and it's there, or is she really farking the random guy because that's who everyone else sees?

"Ohh Trevor, your penis is larger than I remember. And bent!"
