Rivers asked him to join a drill; he refused. Rivers told him to leave, so he dropped the ball, walked out and went for lunch at Delilah's strip club.

I love how this is all playing out.

He sounds like a very well adjusted person.

I watched him in the playoffs. I think I could have done a better job.

I think there are dead people who could have done better.

The only people I feel bad for are the call screeners at all the Philly sports talk stations today. Oh..and all the dogs in the tri-state area after the amount of dog whistles are launched today as well by Philly fan.

Morey really screwed up by not trading him this summer - he could have gotten decent guard - McCollum, Hield, Brogdon - and some picks but he was holding out for a superstar plus the moon.  If Simmons is going to act like a toddler, Morey will be lucky to get expiring contracts in return.

I wanted to like the guy.  I'm blanking on who it was, but there was a guy in the 80's or early 90's who was always a danger to get a triple double but while only barely scoring 10 points.  Think he played for the Nuggets, maybe?  But I've always loved players like that.  Guys who go against the grain and still find a way to be really good.  But my God, what a nutjob.  And shiatty teammate.

Not the guy you're thinking of but that's an apt description of Jason Kidd.   Occasionally he'd go off for 25-30 but mostly he played like a traditional PG.

A week. He couldn't even last a friggin' *WEEK*. All he had to do was just pretend to be even marginally interested. But no, now he's tanked even the small trade value he already had by acting like a spoiled toddler. At this point, I don't care about the return - get him out of here, preferably to some team that sucks anyway, just to basically tell him "FU".

I do love the Joel literally came right out and said "I don't care about that guy anymore". He tried to play nice for the Sixers' sake, and now he's given up even pretending he'll stand being in the same room as the idiot.

Definitely not him.  It was a little before his time.  Darrell Walker!  Thank you, Basketball Reference.  Had 1 season with the Bullets of 9.5/8.8/8 pts, rebounds, assists.

I hope they keep him and fine him indefinitely. This isn't the NFL where contracts aren't guaranteed, so I'm less inclined to side with the players in these situations. It hurts the league if all the superstars can force small market (not that the Sixers are) or unattractive spots (maybe the Sixers?) to accept bad trades to get rid of them, so they can go off to one of a handful of teams that keep getting stronger.

I'm not a real Sixers fan, so take it with a grain of salt.

I read on Twitter yesterday (they had video clips, actually) where at yesterday's practice, he was lollygagging in a shooting drill, and wouldn't take his cell phone out of his sweats pocket (and not really joining team huddles).

What a jellydick.

(keep in midn the report ESPN had a few days ago, where it appears he was trying to jake his way out of playing in a game seven elimination game, by supposedly claiming a COVID exposure.  that's how much of a head case he is.

HotWingConspiracy: Came back for a paycheck and they're just fining it all away.

It's actually worse than that.  His contract is structured to be in lump sums, the first being for around 8 million, which he didn't get because of not showing up.  He also can't fight to get it back even if everything went smooth at this point.

The fines are on top of that.

Plus they let Jimmy Butler walk in free agency so Simmons could have the ball in his hands more.

And they drafted Fultz or Tatum.

2021-10-19 4:29:17 PM
But what if they keep him and try losing all season in the hopes of a high draft position next year?

While I kinda agree, at the same time, they'll have to keep doing the dance of bringing him back until he does something to get suspended again. I'm sure the organization doesn't want to go through that, I'm sure the other players don't, and I *know* us the fans don't. For good reason, they just can't suspend him or fine him because they want to, he has to do something to deserve it, else the NBAPA will step in. Even James Harden last year, as disinterested during games as he was until the trade, *participated* in the team activities.

Plus, at this point, even a bunch of role players or 2nd-round picks have more use to than Ben. Either for further trading, or as bench help and complementary pieces, at least you can get *something* out of them. Now, thanks to the NBA's rule of similar salary trades, you can't just give Ben away for literally nothing, there has to be some sort of return, even if it's a couple of overpriced old veterans or expiring contracts.

I mean, Morey didn't do himself any favors by asking for the moon this summer. (There's "starting high" for a proposal, and then there's "Are you *FARKING INSANE*?")  So, it should have never reached this point in the first place, but now that they're here, it's time to just cut your losses. Embiid only has maybe 3-5 years left (hopefully) before his body completely is destroyed, so having this distraction around (even as perpetually suspended) isn't worth it.

links136: Plus they let Jimmy Butler walk in free agency so Simmons could have the ball in his hands more.

This is the part that makes me the most upset, even with everything else. They traded (well, sign-and-trade) Jimmy because Brett Brown (who was the defacto GM at the time, regardless of Elton Brand being there) couldn't stand to a) get rid of Ben, since Brown was a friend of the family and knew Ben since he was born; b) tell Ben to sit down and shut up; and c) handle someone that was pointing out how poorly the lockerroom was run.

And then, they fired Brett Brown a year later anyway. *sigh*

Ok can someone explain not me why a club just doesn't sue for breach of contract?
I have never understood this in the NBA if a player is disgruntled the teams just shake their heads and cave into the players demands. Are they to afraid that if they take a stand no one will play for them anymore?
Also if the league ends up with all the superstars on two or three teams what is the incentive for other teams to try and compete?
Not a dog whistle here just never understood why this happens.

They want to get some value back for him, no use in letting him go for nothing. That might happen though cause Simmons is a moron who destroyed his trade value.

The 6ers are doing the opposite of caving into his demands, that's why this is even going on.

Or maybe he's just a spoiled piece of shiat.

obviously mental health has become a "thing" in sports just over the past 3-4 months, and if he is in fact battling smething, that's nothing to mock.  but the Sixers have been working on his on-the-court mental issues for probably a year at least.  i can only assume that they have also tried to help him with any off-the-court mental issues he may be dealing with.  it's a jacked up situation no matter how you look at it and the sad part is, Embiid is kinda turning on him.  He's (Simmons) got no leverage to force his way out.  I mean, newsflash, the season begins today.  rosters are set.  yeah trades happen but Philly had 2-3 months to work a trade and id didn't happen.

Guys, we're missing the important question. Was the lunch better than the food Lou Williams got at Magic City?
