It's just nice to see a grownup with a discernable voice writing for them.  It's a whole staff of kids, just out of college, with no point to make and afraid of not sounding like everyone else.  So dull.  Miss Grantland more all the time.

But they seem like very nice kids, so there's that.

And Mulholland Drive is great, but Twin Peaks: The Return is the crowning achievement.

Wrong again.

His crowning achievement is The Elephant Man.

The first half of I saw of Mulholland Drive was somewhat interesting. The thing is, I was using my new PS2 as a DVD player and bumped the controller. Apparently Lynch's vision included not having chapter selections. I got annoyed and ended up watching Kurosawa's Ran again.

I used to be so impressed with it until I found out all the best parts were from a disjointed production and screwups and not any plan.  Still a good movie but it loses a bit in my mind for it just getting Frankensteined together and turning out good.

#1  The Straight Story, #2 The Straight Story (Back to Back on TCM). When Lynch decided we wanted to make a movie that told a true story and hire an actor and just let them shine, he made a movie that makes the rest look like "The Hand of Manus." I only watched the first time back in 90s because I loved Lynch (still do) and discovered this gem.

No. I'm not being sarcastic or hip. Watch this G-rated Disney movie and see a true artist make his masterpiece.  Its like Da Vinci making his fame and fortune on great religious art like "The Last Supper" and "Salvator Mundi" and then he busts out a painting of a merchant's wife called "Mona Lisa".  Totally not what people were looking for but daaaaaaaaaaaaarnn!!!!!!

before the Ringer, when Grantland was a thing, they had Wesley Morris writing long form.  He still joins the Ringer on podcasts once in awhile, but I'm not a listener and everything else movie-related just seems kind of cheap now. It's like being stuck on an ex.

Read about this in one of the Norm Macdonald tributes (he loved the movie, guess why) and checked it out. It is very good. And surprisingly Lynch despite the G rating (Macdonald called it a "hard G").

The Ringer is awful outside of Bryan Curtis, Kevin Clark, and David Shoemaker. Simmons has gotten worse the older and richer he's gotten.
