I don't understand why medicine is not given to women who need it.

Because some people attach their entire lives meaning to a thing they won't give two shiats about in 9 month.

Perhaps that was the real purpose of the wall - not to keep them out, but keep us in.

Rest assured: the malevolent trash in the Texas legislature are already thinking about how best to criminalize that, too.

Democrats have been handed a gift here. They should milk this for all it is worth. They should be creating a Netflix series right now about how the Nazi Republicans forced the underground railroad to startup again, right here in 2021.

/Democrats will drop the ball.

Fun Experiment:  Create a Super Pac for Republicans and all they have to do is be pro-abortion.   That's all.   I have no idea how a Super Pac works but I can assume it can hand out massive amounts of cash to whomever I choose.   Not little 20k donations but have a billion in the Super Pac and refill it with another billion in one of those special bank accounts that pay you to have money in it.  Again.  Banking is not my Kia Forte.

Tell them that the Super Pac will be like the Third Reich and last a thousand years and then fold after one or two elections cycles.  Long enough for them to say they're all up in lady's body rights and piss off the evangelicals.

True story:
My born-again Christian sister and I were arguing about vaccines. When I pointed out that a lot of vulnerable people can't get the vaccine, like newborns and infants, she told me it she didn't think that was that big of a deal.

The evangelicals are getting desperate. those idiots actually thought outlawing abortion would be popular.

TX is heavily gerrymandered to the point that rural white conservatives choose the government.  Abbott's poll numbers have declined, although he's a rising star in the GQP, competing with DeSantis for who can end democracy faster.
If the TX abortion law is allowed to stand then expect this approach for a variety of other horrible causes.  It will be like East Germany.

Just wait until they figure out that outlawing abortion only means that poor minority women are having more babies, as white girls will be driven by their family to other states for abortions, and thus this law is making Texas more diverse.  That alone will get most of them to flip from pro-life to pro-choice overnight.

If the GOP have to use such heavy handed tactics in Texas just to survive, then they're not going to be able to stay on top for long.

I imagine they'll insist on a panel of conservative judges who decides on a case by case basis who is white enough to be forced to give birth.

It is hilarious that the moment Texas made abortion Illegal, Mexico legalized abortion.

I am sure there is more to it, but damn.  It feels like all it took was "Hey Manuel!  You really want to see those gringos lose their shiat?!"

TofuTheAlmighty: Rest assured: the malevolent trash in the Texas legislature are already thinking about how best to criminalize that, too.

The law technically does that already. What we need to do is weaponize that law against them since there is, apparently, no burden of proof or penalty as long as you don't lie in court. I mean, if Texas pro-birth group leadership and politicians are sued in dozens of counties all across Texass, so that they have to stop working to show up and defend themselves, or face default judgments, this shiat will end quicker than it started.

Well, either that or a bunch of lawyers are going to be collecting some mighty fine fees to buy new hats. Just remember, file the lawsuits as far away from the those morons as possible, and have groups of people file ten to twenty at a time against a single person.

You're all idiots, this is class warfare.

They aren't going to change "dog law" at all. That was a bone thrown to the feminists who complained about them not helping women. No, they'll keep dog law.

The entire abortion debate is fueled by the ultra-rich that want their (near) slave labor force. This is class warfare. By making abortion, and birth control is next they're finally starting to admit it openly, illegal they create an underclass of women (and men) who will be stuck in a shiatty life. They'll have very few options to get out of low wage jobs, no real access to education, for the men there will likely be jail time (part of dog law) when they can't afford something trapping them further. They'll both be too harried to even think about getting ahead, much less an education. A nice, near permanent, underclass of men and women raising the next underclass of men and women, to enhance profits. Not only that but if they vote, most likely they'll be low information voters making them easy to manipulate... a twofer.

I mean, birth control and abortion was ruining things because there wasn't enough poor people. The pandemic showed that one full stop. Look at those uppity poor people refusing to work for slave wages now. You'd think they know their place.

This has nothing to do with Jeebus, except for the rank and file nutbar in anti-abortion groups. No, this is all about the profit.

This is why we need to push the buttons of the anti-abortion rank and file. Cite "cases" of people crossing state, and country, borders to "kill" the "baby" legally. Those durty harlots and their enablers should be charged with MURDER. Since abortion is planned, it's first degree intentional homicide... full stop.

That will also correct this issue right quick. The rich don't care if the poors suffer and die. Their little Suzy gets a "legal" abortion in Canada, and they get charged with murder? Unacceptable!

Texas won't have jurisdiction to see medical records of women treated out of state.
Good luck with that one kids!

As an American who lives in Texas, please be assured that what you read about the conduct and agenda of Texans is not exaggerated. They are as inexcusably vile and cruel as you're told they are, and the excuses made for them are as flimsy and irrelevant as you believe them to be on first reading.

I just always think that rich people have to prove their worth (their wealth) by taking advantage of those beneath them.  It's not even conscious cruelty, since they never think about it.  It's just how you're supposed to act if you have money.  Otherwise why have it?  Like rich men who sleep with underage girls.  Considering the risk, why do so many of them do it?  Because they can.  Because it's part of the proof of being a filthy rich man.
They can buy anything they want, but abusing others is how they  really show their status.

It's like wearing a MAGA hat and driving  a loud truck.  Some things just go together.

No, the demographics are shifting in TX.  I am curious how many older conservative voters have died due to covid and lack of medical access and if this has actually reached the tipping point.  Many many more are likely disabled from long haul COVID as well and might lose their right to vote under Abbott's voter suppression law (ironically).

The reason I think this absurd law is going to ultimately get struck down is the overreach it will eventually allow.

Sexuality is a protected class - but can a state create a civil liability for being homosexual on private property? "It's not illegal! The state has no part in prosecuting these cases! You can be homosexual on any public land you want! We only want to give landowners the right to determine who is in their house!"

Then religion - a $10k penalty for attending an event at a church that isn't a member of the Southern Baptist faith? "It's not a state action! You can still attend a non-Baptist church! Worship any god you want! We just want churches to determine who is allowed to be on their property!"

Putting policy enforcement in the hands of the public is insanity. At some point the "majority" runs out of "minority" to persecute, so the "majority" splinters off to create a new "minority".

Right up until the moment it's born, at which point it's a drain on the system and should be denied medical care.

I keep telling my Christian friends that they should be promoting abortion, not trying to restrict it.  Good Christians, and conservatives generally, are not the ones getting abortions.  And if people that are seeking to destroy everything you hold dear demand that they should be able to kill their next generation before they even get to the crib, all opposing abortion does is ensure that your children will have to same fights you are having.

There are 750,000 to 1,000,000 abortions a year in the US. Those are rookie numbers.  Instead of protesting abortions, spent that time and money having a van in every liberal arts college and music festival parking lot offering free rides to the local abortion clinic.  Let them die so you children may live a better life.

Because they're women.

Not sure what's not to understand.

Women are lesser in this country and always have been. I mean, they're considered less than men in most countries, but on the subject of women's rights, as, you know, adults, America has granted those rights grudgingly. And always after we have to hear a bunch of bullshiat from every stupid asshole in the country, usually using religion to justify their stupid.
