I was researching the Bible while writing a medieval historical novel.  I was throwing around Bible quotes.  I'm not religious.  This irritated a WERF co-worker of mine who was in the process of getting divorced to marry my friend.

"If you read the Bible," she gritted between her teeth, "REALLY read it, you would find comfort and be a better person."

I said, "Oh, like Matthew 5:32."

"OK," she sighed, "what is it?"

"'He who marries a divorced woman commits adultery.'"

"Lovely, great, terrific."  She left me alone after that.

Song of Solomon, Chapter 7  (The 'Lets get it on' chapter.  Read it in Barry White's voice)

1 How beautiful are thy feet with shoes, O prince's daughter! the joints of thy thighs are like jewels, the work of the hands of a cunning workman.
2Thy navel is like a round goblet, which wanteth not liquor: thy belly is like an heap of wheat set about with lilies.
3Thy two breasts are like two young roes that are twins.
4Thy neck is as a tower of ivory; thine eyes like the fishpools in Heshbon, by the gate of Bathrabbim: thy nose is as the tower of Lebanon which looketh toward Damascus.
5Thine head upon thee is like Carmel, and the hair of thine head like purple; the king is held in the galleries.
6How fair and how pleasant art thou, O love, for delights!
7This thy stature is like to a palm tree, and thy breasts to clusters of grapes.
8I said, I will go up to the palm tree, I will take hold of the boughs thereof: now also thy breasts shall be as clusters of the vine, and the smell of thy nose like apples;
9And the roof of thy mouth like the best wine for my beloved, that goeth down sweetly, causing the lips of those that are asleep to speak.
10I am my beloved's, and his desire is toward me.
11Come, my beloved, let us go forth into the field; let us lodge in the villages.
12Let us get up early to the vineyards; let us see if the vine flourish, whether the tender grape appear, and the pomegranates bud forth: there will I give thee my loves.
13The mandrakes give a smell, and at our gates are all manner of pleasant fruits, new and old, which I have laid up for thee, O my beloved.

I had to do memorized Bible readings in parochial school.   This one is was always good for a laugh.

Book of Cyril: There shall, in that time, be rumors of things going astray and there shall be a great confusion as to where things really are, and nobody will really know where lieth those little things with the sort of raffia work base that has an attachment. At this time, a friend shall lose his friend's hammer and the young shall not know where lieth the things possessed by their fathers that their fathers put there only just the night before, about eight o'clock.

34 The next day the older daughter said to the younger, "Last night I slept with my father. Let's get him to drink wine again tonight, and you go in and sleep with him so we can preserve our family line through our father." 35 So they got their father to drink wine that night also, and the younger daughter went in and slept with him. Again he was not aware of it when she lay down or when she got up.

There is a category of Bible verses that people think are slam-dunk put-downs, but which don't actually mean anything beyond "Nyah, you think you're right but really you're wrong and I'm right" and rely on the reader to provide the actual content.

Another popular one is the quip from Isaiah 5:20: "Woe to them that call good evil and evil good,"

/ You might consider this category the "I am rubber, you are glue" verses

There is a Bible verse about taking a dump in a cave.

In one earlier version of the Bible, it said he "went into a cave to cover his feet".  This Streistanded the quote with kids saying, "Huh?  Explain, please." and lengthy discussions about bodily functions in the Bible.  So they changed it to "relieve himself".

Nah. People just cherry pick whatever they want from the christian bible and use it to justify their hypocrisy. IMHO the entire book is compromised.

My favorite obscure bible verse is the one where Jesus tells people they should be vehemently opposed to abortion and how they should hate homosexuals.  I'm not alone - a lot of people really like that one, but as I said, it's so incredibly obscure that no one has found it yet.  Granted, none of us who like it have spent much time looking - that book is so preachy and doesn't really tell me what I want to hear, but I have faith it's in there somewhere....
