Yeah, this same example hits the news again every other year or so

Yup.  She might want to get a restraining order on Bellerophon.

All those "yo momma" jokes?  They were about someone else.  Sorry for the confusion.

The page locked me out halfway but this reeks of a genetic chimera. I think there are similar legal cases that go back decades.

More accurate headline: Woman find out that she is a chimera when her kid's DNA doesn't match hers.

Do they know who the mother is?

"Son, you can marry either one of them girls, 'cause she ain't your Momma, but she don't know it."

TFA kind of mixes two different cases into the article, in both of them the mother was found to be a chimera "two distinct sets of DNA" despite having no outward traits. There are probably many more chimeras in the world than known, as the condition doesn't necessarily affect their life.

Can a chimera be prosecuted for abortion in Texas?

I'm confused was she was cheating on her boyfriend that caused her child to have the weird generic mutation due to merging zygotes or was it her mother that was cheating that caused her to have the weird genic mutation.

Either way someone has some explaining to do.

You could try RTFA every time this subject gets posted every 3-4 months.

Hungry zygote ate its non-identical twin & absorbed it, thus grown up woman has an ovary that spews out her eaten siblings eggs.

Both of your suggested scenarios is some misogynistic bullshiat. "Hurr durr who was the cheating whore?"

I remember that the welfare department was accusing her of fraud like she illegally bough the babies from some surrogate despite her OBGYN having signed the birth certificates and telling them that this woman squeezed them out of her own body. She was pregnant and the state had an investigator in the delivery room to witness that birth, and then the DNA test of that baby didn't match the mom.

But the kids are related to the father, so she needs to dump him for sleeping around.

You'd think this situation would come up more often with the advent of egg donations.  Even though the people who can afford those may be less likely to end up on welfare, surely a few people have found their situations changed drastically.

Or...

Maybe her baby was accidentally switched at birth, with the baby of a woman the husband happened to be sleeping with.

Except in those cases there is paperwork to explain what happened..... and an adoption if necessary under state law.

She ate her twin in the womb? The GOP wants her charged with murder.

This has happened often enough that they should automatically ask the DNA people if the results are consistent with a sister or half-sister being the "real" mom. If they are, it probably a case of chimerism.

And should not the state care more about who is actually raising the child more than who provided an egg or sperm?

/She was born two  two people if personhood starts at conception. Identical twins are only one person. Not sure how many people a mom is as they sometimes have cells descended from their child in them long after giving birth. Then there is the reality that many, possibly most, fertilizations result in a "baby" that dies before the mother even knows she is pregnant. Biology is messy.

Are there any studies or papers out about how common this is? You hear about more all the time. Probably just a rise of reporting rather than there being more chimeras. I wonder if any of them have just freaked out when they were told that they are both themselves and their twin that they absorbed? That has to be some freaky news to be told.
