This is probably not quite what the OP had in mind, but I thought I'd share. This is from the official Scholars Archive at Oregon State University on the origin of Oregon city names:

Noti

If you don't know how to pronounce the name of this city, this story will help.

"In the early days an Indian and a white man were traveling together from a point on the coast into the Willamette Valley with one horse between them. In order to make as rapid progress as possible they were doing what was known as 'riding and tying.' One would take the horse and ride ahead a distance, tie the horse and proceed on foot. When his companion reached the point where the horse was tied, he in turn mounted and rode a given distance beyond his partner and tied the horse again. It is said that the white man had agreed to tie the horse at about the point where the Noti Creek joins Long Tom River, where the present town of Noti is now located, but instead double-crossed the Indian and rode on to Eugene and left the Indian to walk. When the Indian discovered that he had been jobbed, he is said to have exclaimed, 'Him no tie,' and from there the place received its name."

My dad bought a place in Carmel for his girlfriend. Then she dumped him. I pronounce the town's name "HAHAHAHAHA!"

I've been through Cut and Shoot.

Saw a sign for "pick your own blueberries - $1.25 lb". Picked 17 lbs in a 5 gallon bucket. When I went to check out, the old man said "Stick out your tongue. That'll be an extra $0.25."  I, of course, had eaten my fair share while I was picking and my blue tongue had given me away.

Ha!

My mom used to tell us kids, if she suspected us of dishonesty, "If you're lying, your tongue will turn blue.  Let me see your tongue."  Of course, if we were lying, we'd refuse.

You should have seen the look on her face the day when I had been sucking on a blue lollipop.

SomeTexan: ReluctantLondon: Not stupidest, per se, but I'm guessing that Eromanga in Queensland has a few disappointed weab visitors... :)

/ Borrowing from Pratchett, an honourable mention goes to all the small villages named things like "What?", "It's Just A Village, I Don't Know", and "Your Finger You Fool"

Speaking of Pratchett, he named a village on the disc "Bad Ass".  Because a certain donkey misbehaved, allegedly.

It is, appropriately enough, the hometown of Granny Weatherwax.
