I don't get it.

The era where Mel Gibson could do this (disregarding his personal shiat) was probably over 20 years ago, around the era of Payback (which was an underrated as hell movie).

Yeah, he smoke so many cigarettes he moves slower than Ian McShane. I doubt he could walk up a flight of stairs without getting winded. Maybe his character sits behind a desk the whole time, like every straight to video movie Bruce Willis has been in for the past five years.

His latest chance is this John Wick TV show, which will be about 1970s New York and a young version of Winston Scott, the character played by Ian McShane in the movies.

Am I misunderstanding this and they're getting a guy 14-years-younger than McShane to play his character in a period set 50 years ago? Or are they just describing the premise?

Also ignoring the off-screen shiat for this paragraph, it could work with the latter. He would probably be the former head of the Continental and who Winston eventually gets it from.

But being unable to ignore the off-screen shiat, fark him. There are plenty of actors who aren't shiatty in real life and don't need a baker's dozen of chances from Hollywood. Sounds like Keanu and the movie side really don't have much to do with this and I'm guessing it'll be a Marvel "TV shows can reference movies as much as they want, but not vice versa" set-ups.

I'll pass. I've seen enough of him chewing scenery as his character goes through implausible torture scenarios.

Yeah, he's pretty talented in front of and behind the camera. It's a shame his personal life is such a mess but it's been long enough since he was imploding and been quiet since that I'll give him a try on new projects

I'd argue the quality went down significantly.

The best thing he was involved in post-meltdown was the Imaginationland Trilogy of South Park, and those were just pictures of his face and a fake voice.

Thanks for that as I hadn't seen it before.

Bad people can do good things and vice versa. Robert Downey Jr. needed a hand up and it was provided to him, he then goes on to return the favor down the road by attempting to help the person who was there for him when needed.

If there is anything bad out there about Jodie Foster I've never heard it. She also extended a hand to an old friend.

I've known some people who have done some pretty horrible things but would have my back in an instant, no questions asked. It doesn't absolve them of their sins in other areas of their life but their loyalty has been and would be returned in the future as well. Life is funny sometimes because people are complicated.

The next time some whatabouting farknugget from Mooseknuckle Junction is screaming or mewling about cancel culture show them this then slap them in their Christdamned yee-haw hole.

There IS no cancel culture. There is a "canceling-off" period of months to years, where "brand/marketing professionals" (one of our many American euphemisms  for sociopathic monster) use an algorithm to determine the exact moment everybody's moved on for a long enough period that they can try and re-monetize that brand or IP.

Likeability score of the figure/brand minus severity of the of the infraction, accounting for cultural biases, factoring what other bad shiat has gone down since and how that might affect their ability to monetize it and... ploop. Months or years later all these bozos get recycled again.

If Chris Brown could be marketed again and have another chance at a career AFTER beating the shiat out of Rihanna don't tell me cancel culture is any real farking thing being bandied about in good faith. It's just bullshiat.

In America, capitalism rules. Mr. "farking Jews, jews are responsible for all the wars I hope you're raped by a pack of n-words" was nominated for an Academy Award in 2016, for fark's sake. There is no cancel culture. Anyone trying to assert otherwise is mistaken, foolish, or simply lying to you.

Author of TFA was really reaching, including "threw a tantrum when he didn't get the budget he wanted for Braveheart."

Every director has complained, yelled, or threw a tantrum when they didn't get the budget they asked for to make a movie.

It's also one of those movies that your mind rebels against because Vince Vaughn is in it and should therefore suck, but somehow doesn't. Doesn't hurt that it was the same director who did Bone Tomahawk.

fortunately nobody needs to make up the fact that gibson is a racist, antisemitic farkwit who fervently hopes for women to be raped by black people. Nor to my knowledge has he ever made any sort of statement showing regret for any of that.

Also, FTA:

"and Keanu Reeves' John Wick serves as a reminder to protect the things in your life that help you feel like a fully realized person while rejecting the pressures from those in power to reduce yourself to a machine that only exists to do one "useful" job-be it, you know, accounting or plumbing or working as an assassin for various international factions that all serve under some vague hierarchy of murderers."
