Because YouTube reactors have become our substitute girlfriends. They watch our movies, we get to live it with them as if we were showing it to her, and she gets YouTube and patreon dollars.

There is a reason why the most attractive reactors have the highest subscribers.

Not that I would know or anything.

Why would I give a shiat about some pointless, clearly ignorant sack of meat's reaction to a movie that should have been seen in the normal course of events?

My kids were well versed in literature, art, music, chemistry, engineering, construction and films by the time they were teenagers.  A parent that does not provide a breadth of knowledge for their children is evil garbage who should have been sterilized before they were allowed to have sex.

First, screw you you unkind piece of garbage

Second, she had a sheltered upbringing and only watched Disney Movies as a kid. This isn't her only gig (she works at a local radio station) and she does this for fun. It's obviously working as her numbers are going through the roof.

I guess you've never had the pleasure of introducing someone to a classic.  Half the fun is 1atching their reaction.  This is that but without the need for actual human engagement.

[YouTube video: Old Composer REACTS to TOOL 46 & 2 | Composers Point of View]

I never saw the point of reaction videos, but I couldn't resist clicking on "Classical Composer reacts to Close to the Edge." Because the guy writes music for a living and could intelligently dissect the piece, a mere listener like me often had no idea what he was talking about. It was fun to watch this knowledgable and articulate person listen to and enjoy a piece of music I've loved for 40 years. Being a masochist, I watched several other reaction videos to CTTE for comparison. They mostly boiled down to some kid going, "Wuuuuuut?" for 20 minutes.

I have no idea why Ashleigh is being featured here like this, she's not an especially noteworthy reactor among the legions of Youtubers who react to movies for the first time. Still, I do enjoy her videos, she can be very entertaining when she's watching the right movie that fits her tastes.

Now, I understand why some people loathe reacters. It's a running gag that reactors do so little work compared to other content creators. Some channels like Team Four Star and Terminal Montage even call out reaction videos as lazy and bad. And yet...there's something about reacters that I can't get enough of. I admit their not the most creative of videos out there, but a good reacter can really pull me in.

I think it's because it's a good way to share someone's first experience with a piece of media. Yes, reacters likely exaggerate their reactions for entertainment value, but there is still some genuineness in their reactions, and seeing people laugh, cheer, cry, and all the rest can be engaging. Hell, a lot of these movies I've already watched many times before, so seeing someone experience it for the first time can be a fun way of engaging with the movie again. It's like introducing your wife or your close friends to your favorite movies - part of the fun is hoping they'll enjoy it as much as you did when you first saw it.

That's a real dick move.  YouTube is basically modern day public access tv, so not everyone is going to have professional cameramen and editors.  The low budget efforts are the foundation modern content creators sit on, which is why they are still a popular model.  Hell, before YouTube there was the Numa Numa Kid.

My wife had no clue about the big reveal in Empire Strikes back. No cultural osmosis at all. Seeing a grown adult be amazed at it was glorious.
Also, it was stressful showing her Star Wars and waiting a few months, to push the next, hoping no one at her office inadvertently spoiled it.

Kat Reacts annoys the shiat out of me.  She watches unique movies that no one else watches and the only reactions she can muster are indifference and slight bemusement.  She watched Airplane! and edited out all the jokes and just reacted to the setups.  How could you watch a comedy and edit out the laughter and funny parts?

My youngest son, who is 23, loves films and has pretty good taste. I like showing him movies he overlooked or didn't know about, really good ones and also just culturally interesting ones, but often I've had to talk him into it, even though he says "you were right" Every Single Time. It was just three or four years ago when I convinced him to watch The Sixth Sense, because he thought it would be dull since he'd had it spoiled for him, just as you did. (And I did, right after it came out, because people were being really thoughtless about it at the time.)

It didn't matter; the way the movie plays out is still enjoyable, and the tension of waiting for a reveal you're expecting is actually sort of heightened-plus it isn't straightforward. I don't know what kind of movies you like, but he was pleasantly surprised by how much he enjoyed it, and you might be as well.

You don't have to be fake when you're watching some of the best movies ever made.

In fact you can usually tell they aren't faking because if they watch something like The Matrix, it's been copied and parodied so many times it comes in underwhelming for them.

If it helps, it really wasn't meant to be a big surprise twist. Presumably, you paid for ticket and watched the movie knowing Orson Welles was in it. And for the first two-thirds of the movie, every character is talking about Harry Lime, and Orson Welles hasn't shown up yet. It doesn't take a Nobel Prize-winning physicist to do that math on that one.

Trust me, it will still be a great movie moment when Joseph Cotton finally sees him standing in that doorway with that grin on his face.
