One thing no one seems to address.
Who the hell can afford to buy newspapers anymore? The price goes up and up - at least 3 times a year and the average person has to look at their budget and ask, what do I want, Disney+ or a newspaper with little to no local news anymore?
Guess who looses.

The Tribune has gotten thinner and thinner since Alden took over. And the Sports section which still touts itself as "the best Sports section as declared by the AP sportswriters" is only like 6 pages and does not contain any of the previous night's scores.

/the AP sportswriters probably declared it the best because 3/4ths of all bylines say "AP Wire" now
//Daily Herald sports section is far better

How thrilled was I when the Chicago Sun-Times was purchased by Chicago Public Media (who runs NPR) and is now going not-for profit?

This is the way things should be.

I subscribe to my local newspaper.  It's basically a tax against corruption.  And I enjoy reading the local news.

I subscribe to a local indie/alternative because our town's newspaper of record, while not an Alden paper, is remotely owned and operated under the same basic premise.  Which is "a lot of people will still subscribe out of civic duty, let's cut reporting staff down to 2.5 FTE and make some money for a little while until those perma-subscribers die off".

Gonna be a giant black hole for history though.  It's already easier to figure out who was the Excellent Senior in the Pythian Sisters in Kokomo, 1934 than it is to find way more information from 3-4 years ago.
