I used to work security at a stadium as a side gig when i was in school.   one time a couple of drunks started fighting.  they were flailing around and kicking each other and i just stood back and let it go.  when my boss asked why i didn't break it up i told him "i kept everyone else out of it and the drunks tired out after 30 seconds, as soon as they were spent we kicked them out but $8/hr isn't worth taking a wildly thrown shot to the face."  he told me OK but next time i needed to break it up.  i told him there was no way i was doing that and if he didn't want to hire me any more i understood.  i kept that gig for another 2.5 years until i graduated and moved.

That's a lot of anger for two teams not making the playoffs.

So, is this like with air travel where the incidents are notably up or is it like police brutality where it's not up, just the ability to record it is up and we're seeing it more?

If their teams were making the playoffs maybe they'd be happy.

This is why if you are a fan of the visiting team you should never ever wear your colors to the game, IMO. Although I did once see Rams fans treated with respect at Lambeau...everyone in the area was probably sober, though...or maybe not.

At least there were fans of both teams trying break it up.

Sober at Lambeau?  Unpossible. I will say though as a Packers fan when I lived in GB and when I moved away that the Packer Fan Tours who organize trips to other stadiums always told fans make sure you go in groups to reduce potential issues. They also said never go to Philly or (fill in Raiders home city) because they are farking insane. I've been to games in Chicago, Minnesota, Detroit, Indy, Baltimore, DC for the Packers and never got hassled too badly except Baltimore. I think their fans were just mad that the upper level of their stadium was chanting GO PACK GO the whole 2nd half.

My kid wants to see the local football team. I'm not sure it sounds like fun. I did pull him out of school to see a midweek midday baseball game. WE had an outdoor section to ourselves. We had a blast.

It's fine as long as your not an asshole.  I've seen fans of other teams at sporting events here with away team jersey's all the time with no issues.  I've worn my teams jerseys to away games for NFL, MLB, NCAAF games many times and have never had anyone say a word.  If you act like a decent human being, most people will treat you that way - those that don't you just walk away from and don't give them another thought.

Yes, the rivalry goes back many years.  I remember that one game where Full Jake was coined...no wait, wrong game....well, there's that other game that....

No security or cops?

At the first sign of violence at a Bills game a horde of security and cops descend on the area.

I went to a Sabres/Flyers game once. Took PATCO into Philly, I zipped up my jacket on the train platform to cover my Sabres jersey. Hit the Broad St. line to the stadium, the car I got into was filled with a bunch of people wearing Sabres gear... I realized I was among my people and unzipped my jacket.

Was actually seated in the literal last row of the stadium. Didn't have to worry about anybody pouring a beer on me there.

Security was probably patrolling the restrooms for fornicators.

We've hit close to half the stadiums in the NFL and always dress in Bengals gear (whether the Bengals are playing or not, which leads to a lot of people questioning our decision making processes in general) and have never encountered more than a solid volley of f-bombs. But Lambeau? Nowhere is as polite and well-behaved as Lambeau. When the game started? Friendly. When the Bengals were ahead? Friendly. When Aaron Rogers carried the team to victory again? Friendly. Yes, everyone is drunk but they're all happy drunks. It's an amazing place that all fans of the NFL should visit.

Well, you got that part right. There was a guy in my grad program who had gone to Michigan for undergrad and he would show up in our student section at [Div 1 school in a different conference] in Michigan gear. It was douchy. For pro sports, it seems that it would be less douchy, more dopey.

I'd good heartedly tell you to GTFO, no assault necessary.

My buddy with season tickets next to me is a Steelers fan and wears his Steelers stuff to every Bengals game. A few years ago we had a 1:00 game and then the Steelers played the Colts at Indy at 8pm so we made an audible to buy tickets online while we were at one game for the other, then piled into a minivan and had enough time for a quick second tailgate before going into the game. We caught some grief, but people understood we didn't have time to change.

But if I'm in a town that's having an NFL game, I'll go and still wear my Bengals gear just because I really enjoy the NFL. We also wore our Bengals gear at a Cubs-Brewers game that just happened to land in our lap timing wise on our way to Green Bay. For that we deserved the comments we got about being lost, but we got to be surrounded by sad Cubs fans which are the best kinds of Cubs fans so it all worked out. But again, it's what we had at the time.

I didn't wear team gear when I went to the Ryder cup when it was in Louisville, so there are limits.

They need to walk around openly miserable all the time like we do in the Northeast so they aren't so repressed.

Usually you don't see this kind of behavior unless the Eagles are in town.
