I'd support an invasion of Venezuela. Shockingly to me there are many people, on Fark included, who seem to be pro Maduro...

That's because they're pro-Chavez, and Maduro was a direct consequence of Chavez's destruction of the constitution and democratic government in Venezuela.

That's also the way communism disguised as socialism disguised as a democratic utopia always ends.

"The U.S. Department of Justice expresses our gratitude to the Government of Cabo Verde for its assistance and perseverance with this complex case and admiration for the professionalism of Cabo Verde's judicial system,"

But we're going to continue to send them food and money.

You don't have to like anything about Maduro to know that invading Venezuela would be a really bad thing for both VZ and the US.  Or were you talking about Colombia invading?  Still, probably a bad idea.

I don't know what's funnier: the fact that they arrested him for financial crimes he committed in Venezuela, or the fact that the thing he'a being charged with is basically standard US aid policy.

It's almost as if our government was being run by a bunch of iceholes.

I always wanted to drive a Saab. I wonder if he has a sister?

I'm sofa king old, the first Saab I drove had a Saxomat on the column. That guy should change his name...

So did his supposed crimes cause more harm to the people of Venezuela than our sanctions or is our government still hypocrites committing crimes against humanity?

Go read a book or better yet, spend some time in Venezuela. Come back when you understand that it wasn't the sanctions.

Or - and I know this might be shocking - most of us don't give a fark.

In the late 80s I worked in an independent repair shop that specialized in Saab. This is 100% correct.

Riiiight. Our sanctions haven't harmed a single Venezuelan. Or Cuban. Or Iranian. Or Iraqi before that.

I'm not pro Maduro, though I kinda think what was his name, his pre-decessor had the right idea.

He failed to diversify the economy though, didn't save up money, and the thing collapsed with the oil prices.

However, I am against USA farking invading anyone. I bet you loved the Iraq invasion as well.

You have no clue what Communism is. Venezuela is in no way or form Communistic.

Whilst they did nationalize the oil industry, they're not Socialist either, as the government doesn't own, or want to own, the means of production.

I just looked it up. In 1999 there were 600.000 private businesses, today there's 140.000. That's not because of Socialism though, that's a consequence of their economy being farked. To attempt to control the rampant inflation, there's also price controls, which just makes things harder, because it hasn't stopped the inflation.

Its useless to have an official price, when you can't get it at that price, and have to use the black market. And obviously importing raw-materials becomes hard, when the government insist that the official price is X, but noone wants to accept it, when the price is not routed in reality.

It is true that Maduro uses the CLAP fund for food procurement, to donate free food to the poor. That's his support base. Yeah, that is using it as a political tool, but then on the other hand, that's precisely where the food was supposed to go.

He, and the Saab dude, apparently skimmed of the top through corruption. Which is the charge, not that the food isn't given to the poor, though, without corruption there would be more to give of course.

Here's the thing about Venezuela, you conservatives actually love it. Since North Korea is now officially a Taoist theocracy per its leader and bashing Cuba is just no fun anymore, and the Kmr Rouge collapsed and China has become dominant, etc etc, you really needed someone to step up and help you maintain this strawman so when we leftists say "Sweden" you can pretend we said "authoritarian dictatorship."
