Are Australian dollars still roughly half American because either way that's way too much for fast food.

Their fries are big enough to be shared.

Drinks are ALWAYS the biggest rip-off at every restaurant.

But agreed - Five Guys IS too expensive. EVERY damn item is overpriced.

Damn, he ain't lying. I was also doubting it since the photos only showed a couple items, the price sounded outrageous, and I wasn't gonna hunt for the video or watch one on DailyFail, but here's the menu:

Why is is so pricey there? Looking at American prices, the burgers seem to be in the 6-7 dollar range. Even in expensive as hell London burgers top out at £8.75

I bet they are frozen patties imported from the US. That makes sense.

It all tastes like peanut oil anyways..

Never got why people (Jesus christ people in Montana loved this shiat) are hard-core on it. Burgers are OK. The fries suck.

If I went out with coworkers I just got a double bacon cheeseburger and loaded it up with the the garden.

These price jumps are going to kill a lot of businesses. We could have easily absorbed increases for paying employees more but this supply chain and inflation whammy is going to hurt. I like Five Guys a lot but I can make four burgers at home for every one I can buy there. Can't duplicate the fries but I need to cut way back on the carbs any how.

If you had invested $75 in Moderna last October 2020 you could have sold it Friday for $325. Want to guess who likely bought a bunch of their stock last year? (Unfortunately not me. Looking back it was a no brainer)

What's wrong with the fries at five guys? They're double fried in hot-ass oil, crispy on the outside and fluffy in the middle. The only thing that could make them better would be beef tallow or duck fat and I haven't seen a place do that for a long long time.

/hot ass-oil upon request. :D

5 Guys can be really good, but I've found their quality varies by location.

And their fries are good but only if eaten in the store. They don't travel well. Most fries don't, but especially theirs.

Might be the location I was eating at. shiat was always soggy and limp in Bozeman Mt.  Was near the jobsite so I ate there like once a week with coworkers

I've only ever been to two five guys and one was better. I have no doubt that there must be crappy ones out there. Sorry you found one of them. (Seriously)

Found the same thing with Arby's.

That would suck worse. The curley fries are like the one thing I want from Arby's. Crispy crunchy spirals of greatness.

If they were soggy mushy points of disappointment I'd be sad.

Try this on any fries you carry out. Toss them in the oven and set it on convection broil. They'll crisp up in a few minutes. If you don't use this setting often, keep an eye on it because it's easy to end up with cinders.

1 AUD ~ $0.75
Yeah, dude spent ~$159 on dinner for family. No idea what average pricing looks like down under, but that's a lot of $ for burgers for the family.

I just checked out my local 5 Guys online menu. Before taxes etc, his order (I made a guess as to which burgers/fry and drink sizing) here in St Louis would cost about $112 USD for 6 'big' burgers, 4 reg fry, 4 sodas, and 3 vanilla shakes. Figure about $10 in tax (local rate's 8.98), and that's about $122 for dinner. I don't remember them being quite that expensive, but I only go there by myself - the rest of my household are more chicken strip and gravy people.

much as I adore their fries, on both of those points I must agree. as baxterdog wrote, it's all about the hot ass-oil - but if you take that overflowing ass-bag home with you (or get delivery) the fries basicamente steam themselves into Canadian-ness. my bougie ass-self (h/t 151) loves the fact I can order them "cajun lite, please?" (it is not the amount of spices, it's the salt. and me, I even once ate a big heaping ass-bowl of salt!) and it comes out exactly how I'd like.

2021-10-18 8:53:02 AM
You could boil their fries for an hour and they still wouldn't be as soggy as their buns straight out of the wrapper.
